It is still alive and kicking. My latest testing last week says its ability to "stop" malware is exceptional. Cleaning is better then last version but, better. This may be the lightest product out there.

I really used to like this program, but stopped using it for some reason that I can't remember. Not sure if I thought it was abandonware. If I recall, the installer was like a year old (this was a while back).

    Is this the 11/10/2013 version?

Cause that's the newest I found.

That's actually not too bad. I'm pretty sure they used to only update the installer every year or so.

OT but I like Alyac's penguin holding the green & white pill. Wish that showed in the taskbar. And that the pill turned red & white if there is a security concern with the penguin looking down at the red & white pill with a concerned look like he's holding hot potato. LOL

Trying it out for the last month - light, fast, updates several times a day. Nothing bad to report.

I wanted to give Roboscan a try on my XP mode virtual drive but it will not install. Don't get a peep out of it.

They should update the installer more often. Even if they rarely make program changes( and they rarely do), they should update it with more recent sigs.

AFAIK, sigs updated via the daily update system, not via the initial installer......

Within the construct of a signatures discussion...

If you look at the history of that RoboScan "latest" db, there are many occasions where a day or two (or three) is skipped. And that go to Manual DB Updates link has been a "Coming Soon" feature for ages tho one might dig around for that ALYacDBUpdate_ file which is "renewed every week...different from automatic database files."

Anyhow, BD updates their sigs as-necessary several times a day. On 2/27 a sig version was 7.53426; right now it's 7.53497. Do the math.

RoboScan's once-every-24-hour sig update is far better than nothing; it is Bitdefender, after all. And free. No doubt the Tera side of things helps.

In contrast, Lavasoft's free Ad-Adaware can be set to check for BD sigs every hour. By email verification with their support (copy available for a nominal fee) and by my direct observation, sigs are downloaded and installed as soon as BD releases them.

For sure, lots of nit-picking in those critiques. But this is Wilders Security (!) and we demand the latest and greatest and we want it NOW. :D

    Cheers.

Well it's back to Robscan Free for me, and maybe I will upgrade to the Pro version again when I can afford it.

You can set it to check for updates are hourly. Are you saying that Roboscan only gets new Bitdefender signatures every 24 hours? In which case changing it to check for updates hourly is pointless.

You can right-click the systray icon and do a manual update, otherwise, you can adjust the auto-update frequency as often as every hour. This AV will more than protect you unless you are a click-happy fool, 24/7 porn hound, an 11 year old. And, it's drag on your machine is a big old goose egg.

I Just realised I put some software restriction policies in the Policy editor to prevent Cryptolocker infection so thats why it wouldn't install -- silly me. At least I know my Local Policy rules work !
Back to Roboscan, it seems very light and unobtrusive. I will keep this for now.
Also has anybody any idea how to get rid of the advert at the bottom of the screen ?
and Is the firewall any good ?

    Thanks

Firewall test showed same results as the Windows 7 firewall, but you can set it to not respond to any pings.
Buying the Pro version gets rid of the ad.

Thanks for your reply. I may as well stick with the 'onboard firewall' then.
As regards the ad -- i was waiting for that answer, so we are stuck with it in the free version. I must admit the AV seems unobtrusive but the ad drives me nuts, I don't mind the 'greyed out bits' meaning less functionality in the free version versus the Pro version but if there is any reason why I will uninstall it, it will be 'that ad'.

Only good? thing about the ad is it gets your attention when an update comes through.

Thank you for commenting on my exceptionally astute powers of observation. But, I'm not saying that. RoboScan is saying that. See anon's tastefully pasted quote in #14 above. I know they say "every day" and not in what I called out as 24 hours. I have to think in more precise terms when I visit your one-sun singular-plane-orbit planet.

And it's more like every-day-if-we-remember judging by all the days they've skipped.

Could be the update interval settings are for the Enterprise Solution version in conjunction with their server-side manager. Why build a separate client for the free and cheapo home versions??

When I ran RoboScan late last year, when I checked the logs it showed an hourly check but with actual updates daily except for the days they skipped. Like five straight days in October...

    And water is wet. ;)
