I bought a new cd today and wanted to rip the songs with CDex and put them on my philips MP3 player.CDex ripped the songs but it named the songs 1,2 etc.It did not show the names and the singer names. Is there a free program to do that, both rip and write the names of the songs or do I have to use another program.I have the latest free version of burnaware, but I have not installed it,does that do both?

Use mediamonkey for the mp3s. It will do the renaming/tag editing. Just point the name of the artist/album in the search.

    I highly recommend Foobar2000:

    http://www.foobar2000.org/

It can rip, play, transcode and do all the tag editing and has a link to album databases to automatically retrieve the metadata.

Audiograbber can rip songs and also get tag info.

BTW have you tried the CDDB menu in CDex?
