OK, tested the free Returnil on two Win XP SP2 PCs now and on reboot on both machines my changes are kept (yes, system protection in on!). I've tried deleting files and creating new ones. One is an old machine with an SCSI HD + IDE and simple XP install, the other is a newer P4 with 3 SATA + 1 IDE (not raid) running with FD-ISR. Any ideas?

OK, tested on a third machine now, an XP SP2 laptop and it works as promised. So whats the deal with the other two machines?

    Hello rendez2k,
Can you reply with some additional information about the two systems having issues?

    1) Do you mean that neither system is RAID?
    2) What is your partition setup on each system?
    3) Are either systems multi-boot?

    Thanks
    Mike

    Hi Coldmoon,

    1. Neither system is RAID - the SCSI system is a really simple XP system. The other has 3 SATA drives, again not RAID.

    2. There is no partitions on either PC, but the SATA system is now running FD-ISR

    3. Ni ether are multiboot, although the SCSI system did have an old 2000 reference in the boot.ini. I will remove and try again.

Does it only work with IDE?

The common thread in these reports seems to be SATA drives in combination with IDE's. We are looking into this and should begin exploring solutions in the next public beta series as one of the priority issues for the next build(s).

One possible workaround you can explore in the interim is one proposed by Bromide in post #332 in the "Returnil" thread:

Many thanks - I'll check into the threads. Any idea when a beta might be ready?
