Sorry to show my ignorance here but I would like some clarification on the "Extra Settings for NOD32" sticky thread posted by Blackspear because I am trying to make sure I have everything set up as suggested.

    1) Just what is the "Nod32 Kernel - Execution of an external application". I am presuming it is an external scan of my system which is independent of whatever may be happening locally.

    2) When I try to set this schedule to run I get an extra window asking me to specify files. I just want to have a weekly scan of my hard drive and don't seem to be able to specify just a drive or several drives.

Can you help with some clarification of this?

I am used to NIS which comes set up out of the box and I am on a steep learning curve here. Have pity on me.

Hi Elray when you follow each step through the final part is browsing to

    C Drive
    Program Files
    Eset

At this point you click on "Nod32.exe"

In the "Command Line" box simply copy and paste the following line:

    C:\ /clean /ah /all /subdir+ /heur+ /scanfile+ /scroll+ /arch+ /pack+ /mapi- /pattern+ /scanboot+ /scanmbr+ /heurdeep /log+ /prompt /program

You should now have a weekly scan of your "C" drive set up.

    To test it go to:

    Nod32 Control Centre
    Nod32 System Tools
    Schedular/Planner
Right Click on the name of the Scheduled scan you have just made
    Click on "Run Now"

    Hope this helps...

    Cheers :D

    Hi Blackspear,

Thank you so much for taking the trouble to reply to my request.

I have followed your instructions and everything is testing OK. Without that advice I would never have known what to do next!

I am very happy with NOD32 but I am finding that I have to learn the program and I am so grateful for this forum and all who post here. It's been a Godsend.

    Cheers,

    Elray

Yes - I've just done that. Thanks again.

Unfortunately, every time I visit the forum I find other things I need to know about so I hope I learn quickly and don't drive everyone mad!

My pleasure, and ask as many questions as you like, better that way than sitting in the dark, only to find there is a light switch above your head that you could have turned on had you known about it…

    Cheers :D
