I have just received the message in the Windows Security Center stating "ESET NOD32 antivirus system 2.70 is on but reporting its status to Windows Security Center in a format that is not longer supported". Is this a problem and if so what can I do about it?

You can either ignore the message, install NOD32 v3 3.0.694 or any build of v4 (of course, the latest 4.0.467 is recommended to install).

Thanks for such a quick reply - if I do ignore the message for now until I get an upgrade, will the up to date antivirus protection still work?

Yes, you don't need windows security center to recognise your antivirus, NOD will still work fine.Just because security center does not recognise or support your antivirus, does not mean it's incompatible with that OS.
