CCleaner without backups, it never messed up anything important.
I used RegSeeker and I would use it again, if it would work on Vista.
The same for WinASO Reg Defrag Free, which does not work on Vista.

Actually use a couple different ones. 1) For just a quick "safe" clean I use the one included in TuneUp Utilities. After a heavy round of trying out new software I use Eusing Free registry cleaner. Use with caution as it is very aggressive.

Hey WSFuser, since you're using Ace Utilities, perhaps/hopefully you can answer this question.

I believe I saw somewhere that Ace Utilities is a one-time, "lifetime license" purchase....but is that a TRUE lifetime license (with NO renewal or upgrade costs)....or is it simply "free updates and upgrades for the current version"? I know that some software companies advertise a one-time fee with no "YEARLY renewal".... but charge "upgrade costs" for what they consider a "Major release/new version"....

its a true lifetime license, however, there is an upgrade price if u want the 64-bit version.

a lil OT: i just found that they have a modified version of ace utilites with a new gui. they named it System TuneUp.

I don't use them. My registry is restored at every restart from secure copies that are unwritable. It doesn't change so it never needs cleaning. Also makes registry monitoring software unnecessary. Not workable on XP, only on DOS based systems.

I don't trust reg cleaners. I do use Registrar Registry Manager. It's pretty quick and convenient for editing.

Until now, I didn't find a registry cleaner that really meets all my wishes.
They are all so eager to remove as many registries as possible, even innocent unused registries installed by legitimate softwares, including Windows.
Once, I ran a registry cleaner right after installing winXPproSP2, the only software on my computer at that moment and it reported 200+ registries for cleaning. What's the point of that ?
You might need these registries sooner or later, when you install applications.

I don't use any registry cleaner right now.
I tried all popular registry cleaners mentioned at Wilders (about 20), but I never used them for cleaning.
I couldn't find one that meets all my wishes and frankly I was quite surprised, I couldn't find one.
There was always something missing. So I stopped investigating them.

I'm a FirstDefense-ISR user and that software keeps my registry clean enough.
I only need a registry cleaner to remove leftovers, in case Total Uninstall doesn't remove them.

    I use Ace Utilities.
No problems with the cleaning if you have "ignore list" enabled.

Besides registry cleaning, they have Startup Control/Disk Analysis/etc. Great value for this app.

    Hi,

My old pal 'HollywoodPC' turned me on to RegHealer, in addition to backinup up the registry changes, it makes a 'system restore' point. It also has an 'advanced mode' which flagged like 10,000 errrors. I use the easy mode.

I also like 'RegSeeker' the new version finds invalid services.
