Not at all, just kidding around. I understand your position and agree that use of reg cleaners without knowing a bit about them can lead to big problems. Thats why I use only so-called safe reg-cleaners, I know I don't know enough to use the more serious programs.

i have yet personally to ever have ccleaner with the correct settings do any damage to any one of my customers systems. this i can honestly say. i will never recc a reg cleaner like jv16 to one of my customers. imo they can do way to much harm with it. but with ccleaner i set the settings and explain to them not to change them, and also tell them to make backups just in case but i have honestly never had a single issue. and ccleaner is great at cleaning out temp, and internet trash as well imo

As a registry-cleaner-maniac :D , here is my current procedure (free):
1)take a registry back up with Erunt
2)run CCleaner for 2-3 times, until no registry errors found
    3)run Comodo Registry Cleaner
    4)delete ShellBags entries
5)Optimise with NTregopt and then reboot

(Hyper-Tested with No problems on many XP pc, don't know about Vista etc)

Two things stand out here, one is the dawn of x64 OS now getting common, very few of the registry cleaners are true x64 and therefore they don't really do a thorough job on x64 systems. Also if you are using any of the built in Intel chipsets for video the likes of G31, 34, 43 etc beware of Crap Cleaner which removes all the shell entries for Intel graphics driver namely all the entries starting with igxx.
