Just saw on another forum that, besides installing to a non-standard directory, you could also re-name the program exe of your AV and AT programs to keep them from being 'killed' by some of the nastier pieces of malware out there.

    Is this correct?

    Hi Ghost,

In principal, it's correct, although it doesn't seems to work in all cases. In practice, renaming those .exe files could well lead to havoc; depending on the software, updating might be a problem for example. I would recommend a full back up before renaming. Trial and error it is ;).

Renaming these .exe files after they have been killed, and starting them up that way to avoid being killed by a nastie on the spot again, is a common trick though.

    regards,

Thank you for the clarification, Paul.

Somehow, I didn't think it would be that easy.

Hey guys, that can be accomplished fairly easy if the app doesn't rely on pointers other than 'run'. I was playing around with the idea. http://www.voiceofthepublic.com/PFN/PFN.html Never perfected any foolproof method tho.
