I'm not sure what you mean by jumping through hoops. With PowerShadow in shadow mode, I download programs to my desktop or a desktop folder I use for downloads. Then, I simply cut and paste to either my unshadowed second drive or onto CD. That's all there is to it.

when i download a file within in a sandboxed browser with Sandboxie for instance, and let's say it is an adobe file. on my system everything is categorized, so i would save it to my Adobe Files Folder (Sandboxie allows me to see this Bufferzone did not {as anything under My Documents is labeled Confidential and invisible to buffered applications}). after my sandboxed session is over i can right click on the sys tray icon select "Recover Contents" and Sand boxie has created an exact replica of my Adobe Files Folder in which the newly downloaded adobe file is residing. i highlight it and click on a button that says Recover To Same Folder....and it's done. i of course have the option of going to contents and opening the adobe file first to view it sandboxed and then moving it later as well.

Powershadow as i understand it, yes i can save that adobe file as you indicated, but then i would have to recover it from whatever cd/dvd/usb stick or empty space i originally saved it to in order to maintain the highly organized structure of my computer. while not a terrible distraction, i just cannot think of a reaason i would want to undertake it if i don't have to or have stuff strewn all over my harddrive or on various other media.

so no need to get your cheese stirred, "jumping through hoops" is nothing more than my speak for taking steps i view as unnecessary to achieve the same objective.

Just wanted to mention that i enjoyed this thread especially for the following reason.

Many different products ended up being discussed including some negative comments/experiences but everyone kept their cool and didn't over react in defense of a product like their 'Mother Was Justed Insulted':thumb:

Okay, I understand what you're saying simmikie. I'm from the unorganized side and my computer time, other than surfing to avoid work, is mostly in Word. Files are scattered all over the place. I let Word find them, trusting that it knows where it put them, because I sure don't in some cases.

kewl...as i mentioned there are many different products for many different users. in fact i was thinking, i wouldn't want to be a "hacker" right now as these new and highly capable security apps and in particular virtualizations must be causing some sleepless nights....for now.

also i just finished reading a post in the Sandboxie website that the developer of Sandboxie Tuzuk(?) acknowledges Sandboxie has holes?!?!? what?? and he goes on to state that around ever 2-3 months he/users discover code able to bypass Sandboxie and he "plugs the holes" as they are discovered! WHAT!!!

just goes to illustrate what man can do, other men can undo. so now that i am utterly paranoid again, i think it's time to re-don the binoculars....just when i thought the search was nearly over!

I haven't been to the Sandboxie forum in a while. Have to go read that. I respect him for admitting it, but wonder if that was a smart thing to do?

So far my new favorite, Power Shadow, seems to be safe. But, all the forums I've found are in Chinese, so I have to depend on others here who can read those forums for information.

What about Bufferzone or especially DefenseWall?

i have run both. first was Defensewall (actually first was Geswall), solid performer, stable, caused no conflicts, and seemed bulletproof, passed all of the "test i put it against, and reviewed very well. why did i change? i never quite got the "trusted/untrusted" paradigm, and i did not trust myself with the rollback changes feature. for me it was like giving a loaded gun to someone that is not sure which end the bullets come out of.

as i posted elsewhere, and with all due respect to it's developer Illya (another name i can neither spell or pronounce) i just couldn't get past the feeling Defensewall did what it does with "smoke and mirrors". though that's obviously not the case, it's a rock solid app, but after seeing Bufferzone and understanding conceptually how it works, i just couldn't rest until i switched.

and Bufferzone as i posted earlier, became just a little more cumbersome than i wanted. i thought i could get away with more security with less sacrifice in terms of convienence, and that seems to be turning out as wishful thinking.

i monitor from time to time the Defensewall website to see what progress is being made, and if documentation is being brought up to snuff (last check about a week ago, and not much seems to have changed.

i also visit Trustwares site to see if they are more responsive on their forum in responding to queiries, and it does not appear to be the case, though they do have a resident porn spammer that will gladly field your questions with fresh links!

so to answer your question, i like trust both of those apps. support goes to Defensewall, understanding how the app works for me it's Bufferzone.

finally, after getting over my initial faint from the "hole" admission from Sandboxies developer, i think i am going to stand pat. i like the fact that he massively manned-up in a very public way, and i trust that he is/will endeaver to make Sandboxie as secure as it can possibly be, and that development/refinement is ongoing and progressing.

It is useless to change anything with documentation as it is be completely rewritten from the scratch for v2.0.

that approach works for me as a non-Defensewall user, though someone wanting to use/understand your product here and now could see it another way.
