I am having a problem with version 1.05. Whenever RD queries me as to what action to take, I click on my response (in these instances it was accept always) and then my computer locks up. I can move the mouse but can not click on anything. <Ctrl><Alt><Delete> does nothing either as I can not bring up the task manager. If I try to click too many items with the mouse, it ends up locking up also. It does not do this every time RD queries me, but it does happen the majority of the time. The only way to get out of this is to do a hard shutdown by powering off my system.

Just happened once to me, never did it again.
I allowed mmc.exe to read a key (services manager), do not remember which one, then the system started to being sluggish, and after 10s it frozed.

If you want me to do some tests, tell me.

For now, everything is fine, do not know what happened.

Would you be able to point out which queries it is popping up that it locks up on? Is it only certain ones, have you added custom rules, etc?

    Hi,

I also experiment something similar with the version 1.00 and now with the version 1.050o_O As for me, the last time it happens was at startup. I think it was something from RegRun that was always allow and then my system doesn't respond but I can also move the mouse. To solve the problem, I also had to make a manually hard shutdown!!!

    Thanks,
    Atomas31

I have not added any custom keys and the problem is not with any specific key. The problem occurs with several different keys. See attached screenshot. If I need to, I can delete all my overrides and make a list of the different keys involved if it would help.

    Hi Jason

I saw the same lock up. When I first install RegDefend I have two places that trigger a pop up. First is during final boot up when Spy Sweeper starts up. I get two alerts there. Got thru the first, and froze on the 2nd. Had to do a hard reboot. RD did remember them and came up fine. 2nd pair I get is when I first start AOL. Get one with services.exe and one with WAOL.exe. Again locked up on the 2nd. Again after reboot the settings were remembered.

Also I am still seeing the shut down problem I described in the "remember" thread. If I exit RD then shutdown is fine. If I leave it on, then printscreen shows up trying to shutdown. WHen I click on end it takes 1.5 minutes and then the system shuts down.

    Pete

PS I haven't added anything else manually.

I have had two random instances of a system locking up (have to hard reboot to recover) while working with both RD and RegRun at the same time. Difficult to nail down and duplicate, but I believe I was removing some RD overrides related to RegRun when everything froze.

Yes a beta tester has experienced another "random" lockup when removing a program, having all these vectors to test from will help get the fix out, thanks nick. :)

Pete, do you happen to have any other registry protection programs on your system?

    Jason,
I just installed the new version after uninstalling and rebooting the previous one. I tested against the ScoundrelSimulator and found that RegDefend failed one the 2, 3, and 5 test; thinking that I may need to reboot to get the intended protection I attempted to do so and experienced a freeze which only the dread hard reboot would cure. FYI, the shutdown froze on the gcasServ.exe aka MS Antispyware. This software does monitor registry changes, if that is helpful.

Just curious, everyone in this thread who has problems, are you running a P4 with hyperthreading or a DUAL CPU system?

Knowing you, you will probably have a fix before reading this, but to answer your question. No other specific registry program, but.....

I run Spybot S&D immunize, Spywareblaster, Giant Antispyware(which I believe monitors the registry), and Spy Sweeper(which also probably monitors the registry).

Oh, and also a P4 with Hyperthreading.

    Re: RegDefend v1.050 Released!!!

Is the lock up problem close to being fixed? I uninstalled until the fix is done. Thanks.

I also have had to uninstall because the lockups were too frequent. The last Jason said is that he knows what the problem was and I understand the fix is being tested as we speak. I am sure Jason will jump in if there is anything else to add.

    HTH ;) ...
