So you're saying once per hour, every single hour...or...24 times a day, you get an update? 24 updates each and every day?

Or are you saying that KAV checks for updates each hour? In which case...so does NOD. I've seen days where there are several updates in one day.

KAV updates 8 times per day. Thats every 3 hours (this is also a default check interval). But you can set it to check every 1 hour.

Kaspersky has hourly updates, if there are signatures to add of course! ;) The average is probably 15 updates a day, you can see the statistics here. :)

KAV's update frequency was one of the primary reasons I chose it over other top-rated systems. For example, McAfee only auto updated once a week. I felt (rightly or wrongly) that I was most vulnerable to fast spreading new viruses and having the latest signatures available gave me added security. What's more, KAV seem to have an uncanny ability to get new signatures very quickly so, for example, it would seem to catch all viruses that were submitted to online virus scans. It just seemed to be the best protection. Of course, this protection could be further enhanced with NOD32's heuristics.

    Hi,

Yes, I heard that McAfee was going to daily auto updates. I was pleased to hear this.

Have they introduced daily updates for the home edition yet or is it still only for the enterprise edition. Thanks.

While I agree that KAV has superb detection and I run a KAV AV on two machines I don't see where it catches "all" on the online virus scans?

I check jotti's scan 2 to four times a day when I have a chance.
I do see some that KAV has missed while other AVs detected?

Interesting. I use to check a couple of times a day. Now, maybe a few times a week. I think I might have seen KAV miss one in all of the time I was checking Jotti. Much better than the other AVs. But these were my own experiences and jotti is unfortuately no longer providing statistics.

Did you notice how nice BitDefender does them? The "behaveslike:" ect are all given by their new (partly implemented atm) heuritics...
I'm making no offence, but I think KAV is loosing the worth of it's money, since BitDefender is preforming better and better and is much cheaper then Kaspersky's product. Also the recource usage is better...

KAV is good, but it really needs a "remake" or a price lowering :)

Just check Jotti's again at 10:26 AM CSDT.

Maybe I am just seeing the scans at the wrong time.:)

I am not putting down KAV in any way. It has excellent detection.
Just don't think one can say it catches "all" or that it will catch
everything before the others AVs have a definition.

    Hi,

I've heard good things about BitDefender, but it seems like KAV still is doing better at overall detection. Have you seen anything in the tests to the contrary? If so, I would be very interested, since I am always looking for a good backup for KAV. Thanks.

I can't referring to any recent tests. But since BitDefender keeps on addig hundreds sometimes thousands of signatures everyday they come more close every day. Before January 2006 HIVE (their newly hereustics) are also fully implemented... The price of 29.95$ is just fine :)

I'm not a BitDefender fanboy, but personally I think it's good some AV program finally kicks Kaspersky's ass to make sure they won't get lazy...

Looks like BitDefender has really made very significant improvements with all their definitions updates lately and their improved heuristics!

I told you that was coming.....:p:D

HIVE seems quite good even now, BD has made good improvements, but I feel HIVE will either be slightly better or slightly worse than NOD's AH.

@YeOldeStoneCat - I know NOD also has multiple updates per day, I have my license ready, just waiting for v2.5 Final to release.

F-Prot for Windows has at the present time 163,745 signatures.

And of course the multiple-engined AV's such as GDATA's AVK and eXtendia's AVK Pro would have even more signatures than this.
