    Hello,

Sorry in advance if this might be a stupid question.

Our problem in short: "Our IT-Administrator has left our company without much of documentation etc. We need to make a full recovery from a server. The backupfiles are stored on an external drive (USB HDD)."

Our question: "Can we just write the files to some DVD's and make some kind of rescue disk? Then we boot the sever with that disk and start restoring from the DVD's."

Our product: "Acronis True Image Enterprise 8.0"

    Greetings,
    Niels R.

    Hello Niels,

Thank you for choosing Acronis Remote Server Backup Software.

Yes, it is possible. You will be able to create an image archive split into several parts and then burn these volumes to a set of DVDs. You will also be able to create Acronis True Image Bootable Rescue CD for the cases when your operating system is unbootable for some reasons.

You can also find more information on how to use Acronis True Image 8.0 Enterprise Server in the respective User's Guide.

    Thank you.

My preference would be to leave the backup files on the external drive. Make the bootable rescue CD as suggested by Acronis, boot with it and Restore the files directly from the external drive. Trying to put the backup files on DVD media to restore from dvd is going about it the hard way and it will be slower.

Is there a reason you cannot restore straight from the external drive?

Now if you want extra security, you can burn a copy of the backup files to DVD media but you will first have to plan ahead and save the backup Images in dvd sized chunks. Many here suggest the size of 1492 Mb so you can put three of those on each dvd.

Thanks all for your help. The restore went perfectly and I'll suggest my boss to extend our backup-strategy with Acronis True Image on all new servers coming in next week :D
