I am using an external stick drive for weeks and suddenly I cannot modify or delete any file on it. It seems like a protected drive. I can only open a file for "read" only. I wouldn't like to reformat it (not to loose all the files on it). How to cancel this protection? Thanks
samy, Permissions? Right click a file, Properties, Security tab. What is in the "Group or user names"?
Does it have a very, very small switch on the side you may have accidentally moved? This would turn it into a read only drive as it's a write protect switch.
Thanks for your prompt answers. 1/ I checked it. There is no switch or button on the drive side body 2/ In Properties I got only two tabs: General and Details and not Security tab under General tab -> in Attributes Archive box is ticked . I tried to ticked the Read-only box and got a window: " An error occured.... The media is write protected" When I right click a file the command Delete or Rename are missing. The drive is a Kingston DataTraveller 100G3 (64GB)
I connected it to two different computers. Same problem. I tried to reformat it - impossible - I always got the window "write protected". I downloaded the "Formatter Tool" from http://www.flashdrive-repair.com/20...USB-sticks-with-any-drive-formatter-tool.html and activated it with no success. Do Kingston has a "On-line customer support" link? Thanks
1. I sent request for assistance to Kingston. Waiting for an answer. 2. I contacted also Newegg for the same problem and got the following answer: " I performed the command as requested -problem not solved.
