It has also been almost a year that I have known this forum(Joined on Sep 2008 ) I have learned many things here from experts, Members I also thank them for sharing knowledge:)

I know this is an off topic post but I would have not known many of the good security applications that I currently used if it would not have been for this forum and the helpful members.

Even the program experts like Ilya Rabinovich, Mike Nash, vlk and many many more are here to help what else do you need.:argh:

    Backup, backup, backup.

We all need it and should use a backup plan, even the most careful user may need to be bailed out at some stage due to a Windows or hardware problem.

ShadowProtect and True Image has helped me out of a jam this year.

About backups and such. If my AVs detect something during an install (could be already too late to stop infection) i always play back a clean image from the previous day. Better, safer and faster then going through all the disinfection routines. It takes a few minutes and you have peace of mind.

The staples on my various set up's this year were the same as the previous few years, Namely:

    Defensewall
    Sandboxie
    Malware Defender
    A2 Anti-Malware
    Returnil
    KIS

All have served me well at various points during the year but this year has seen me really sold on a new security app:

    OA++

Using it with Sandboxie and with regular backups courtesy of Paragon HDM I feel as secure as I ever have. Product of the year in my book. Great FW/HIPS combo with top tier blacklister, scanning only unknown files and even then only on execution and my sytems fly! Oh yeah, and Mike and the Tall Emu guys are brilliant. MD licence is perpetual but the others will go as they expire and be replaced by OA++ and Sandboxie on all my machines during 2010 I think.

Almost every member is using DefenseWall

I, for one, refuse to jump on the bandwagon.

    For XP:
Outpost Firewall -- My first and foremost layer of protection.. protects me from identity theft (this is the worst internet threat imo), suspicious driver installations, and of course inbound/outbound port.

VirtualBox -- Allows me to test malware and security apps... this VM is 'virtually' unrivaled :D

Returnil -- Still the best sandbox virtualization I have ever used... easy, simple, feature-packed. Free version is just as good as paid version.

    For 7:
PCTools Firewall Plus -- As always, my primary protection is always a firewall + HIPS/Anti-keylogger... This one is the best by far. Very easy to use even for a novice, and more customizable than Sphinx's Windows 7 Firewall Control Free.

Microsoft Virtual PC -- best VM for Win7 at the moment... just love how it synchronizes with Win7 with that hardware acceleration... and with Windows XP pre-installed, it's a bargain deal, for FREE :D

Microsoft Security Essentials -- If they keep making this as good as it already is, a lot of anti-virus vendors are going to lose jobs ;)

The legacy applications that have continued to perform well are CCleaner, WinPatrol (free), Malwarebytes (free), Glary Utillities (free), and Temp Cleaner from ADDPCs.com.

New this year are Sandboxie, Comodo Time Machine, Macrium Reflect (free), Easeus Partition Master Pro, and (so far) Avast 5 (Beta).

    -Also-
    Faststone Image Viewer.

All in all, a very good year to-date. :thumb:

Have used and like all of the following:
DefenseWall (waiting for v3 :thumb: )
    Prevx
    Zemana
    Returnil
    Shadow Defender
    Outpost Pro FW

But the following are now my stable set up:
    Online Armor++
    Sandboxie (paid)
    Deep Freeze
And probably the most important one of all:
Macrium back up - this has saved my ass several times and never fails me
