    Well said, jmonge. Like you, I am thankful for the friends and forum members here who have taught me and helped me get through another year without infection. ZoneAlarmPro has been on my computers the longest... many years in fact. GeSWall got added in 2008. avast! has been keeping me company for about three years, and Prevx is the newest addition, having been resident on my computers for six months. It is inspiring to me to belong to a forum like Wilders, where I get the benefit of so many great (and maybe a few not-so-great) minds. I learn from everyone... even if it is a lesson in how not to conduct oneself. I have to single out PrevxHelp (Joe), for being the guy who showed up here most frequently and demonstrated for many of us a new level of support. I think his performance is hard to match... except for probably Ilya Rabinovich, who is cut from the same cloth. I hope I have not offended too many members here this past year, and I will make it a priority in 2010 to be the best fellow member I can be. :thumb:

    For cleaning up quite a few other machines usually rogue infected then Malwarebyte's takes the cake. :thumb:

    Was this tread limited to security apps? Because my favourites are CCleaner, Defraggler and Quick Launch. I guess Quick Launch isn't a program but nevertheless...

    I would have to tip my hat to Prevx and Online Armor Premium (note my Signature). Been using them all year without a hiccup. More than I can say for myself...hic...:D

    Not me. Not that I am anti-DW. It's just that I prefer SBIE.

    My good servants include:
    SBIE
    Avira Premium
    Malware Defender
    PopPeeper {email client + spamicide for thinkers}
    Image For Windows {when all else fails}

    I had AVAST 4.8 for a couple of days. Had nothing but trouble due to some conflict. In fact, every antivirus I tried had a problem. AVG, AVAST, PCTools, Comodo, Kaspersky and Avira. None would run on this laptop.

    I've always liked Avast, too, but it seems no av works right on this thing.

    As an aside, I just a few minutes ago purchased Defensewall. Waiting on the license key, probably a day or two according to the return e-mail. It and Shadow Defender will be my protection. I doubt I can do much better.

    "Pretty Good Security" would be my pick to easily enable SRP for home versions. Thanks... to all involved with it.

    The following programs (in order of importance) are installed on my best machine (Vista Ultimate32 SP2):

    StorageCraft ShadowProtect Desktop
    Shadow Defender
    Faronics AntiExecutable V3
    Google Chrome

    I think this combination is light, versatile, and impenetrable. There are of course other possibilities.

    I've had it for a long time. I occasionally activate the TH Guard for upfront protection and do occasional scans. I would recommend it, but whether you need it or not is something you have to decide. There are a lot of products out there and TH does charge a yearly subscription now. I have never had any problems with it and it works well with my other software. It is actively supported.

    This year I would have to say
    bartPE in ramdisk booted from c: from .img file via boot.ini entry
    in combination with
    Macrium Free

    Other security means are helpful, but since using macrium with its bartPE plugin, I have never experienced such speed and issue free imaging.

    Mike Nash deserves credit for developing a world class HIPS/firewall despite being a small company - and for making Online Armor available to all as a free version that is almost as good as the paid one. Well done!
