programmatically detect application and signature version

    I am writing a monitoring application for our servers and one of the items on the check-list is to ensure that anti virus software is installed and the signatures are current.

    What is the best way to achieve this?

    Unfortunately I can't provide the specific info for EAV, but for ESS this information can be obtained by reading the registry key:
    HKLM\SOFTWARE\ESET\ESET Security\CurrentVersion\Info - ProductVersion and ScannerVersion data
