I'm guessing that you want to save emails in the webmail. You can't just download them as you have already discovered. What I do is use a pdf printer, in my case Cute PDF Writer. It's free, BTW. With that installed, you just print your email that you want to save and select Cute PDF Writer as the printer and then it saves your email as a PDF wherever you want it.

If this isn't what you were thinking of then what Nick suggested will be the easiest.

thanks for the replies but is there a quicker way to save than doing each mail individually, i have many hundreds i need to save and this would take an age. is there a way to download loads at once then save. i know this was possible ages ago, but since their policies have changed its no longer possible :(

Isn't this what email clients like Thunderbird do?

    correct.

select all emails in Thunderbird, right-click and Save As, select a folder to save to.
    Done.

Download Thunderbird, setup a POP account for hotmail/outlook.com (see here). Download all e-mails, "save as" as indicated before. Done :)
