Program that changes creation and modification dates for files\folders.

I Am planning on posting two programs:

1. Allows you to select individual files and directories and change the Creation and Modification dates, I just need to add code to issue messages for when the OS does not allow a change.

2. The other program will take a source (say, a mounted volume from a backup) and change ALL the times for the corresponding critters at a destination.

Right now, I've got it changing only directories. I'll change that to use files as well.

Next, I want to allow a path to be used instead of an entire drive.
Then, I need to covert to use Unicode.

I expect to complete all of the above soon.

However. it will take time to prepare the documentation.

To help the OP, I might decide to first post the program(s) without any docmentation.

Today is Tuesday and I have not yet received any reminder.
However, I've had a string tied around my finger, and it's gotten so tight, I finally had to remove the string.

Both programs appear to be done.

One program allows you to choose a file or a directory file and change the Creation and Modification time.

The other program allows you to pick a Source path and a Destination path. The program will copy the Access, Creation and Modification times from the Source path to corresponding files in the Destination path. You can choose to modify the times for ALL files, or ALL directory files, or ALL files and directory files in the Destination path.

If folkes wish to try the critters, I'll post them.
But there will be no "documenation" for a while.
The Form controls should need little explanation.

I, for one, would be interested in trying this program.

When you create a new folder, it carries the current time and date. The intended contents could be files from various folders with various date.

Question: Will this program enable you to change the creation date, modification date of the folder itself. The folder can be empty or can have files. Thanks.

Looks really nifty, Howard. I haven't until now found a decent replacement for the antique utility "touch" from PC Mag, around 1982 or so vintage. I won't need it often but I'll keep it on hand for those odd times the problem this solves drives me nuts. Many thanks.

THe ChangePathTimes program appears to be finished.
Nowm if I can only produce the documentation.
ChangePathTimes will copy the dates from one path/drive to another.
Pour example:

1. I copied a CD-ROM to a directory on a hard drive. Let's call this DirA.
In the process, MSFT does not carry forward the directory times.

2. I used ChangePathTimes to fix the times in DirA by copying the times from the CD-ROM..

3. Then I mounted a TI backup of the hard drive, and used ChangePathTimes to cause the times in the backuo (incorrect directory times) to change DirA back to the incorrect dates.

I then used the program at http://www.standards.com/index.html?CompareDrives to verify the result.

 

Just so GroverH or others don't concern themselves further with it being a "Javascript" problem....the hyperlink that GroverH referenced was indeed wrong and was fixed yesterday. There was a / between WWW and standards instead of .
