   Anyone else had/having problems with this kernel update for Ubuntu LTS? Couldn't boot up into this kernel after the update on my desktop and would just get stuck on the loading screen with the 5 or so dots.

   Try the 'noapic' boot parameter. I had similar issues with Ubuntu 12.04 on one of my computers, and that solved them.
