    Hi,

IE has been acting very strangely since earlier this evening. It seems like I have some kind of spyware that directs some of my searches away from Yahoo. I ran Ad Aware a couple of times already, I also did a system restore back to 3 days ago when I didn't have this problem, but it's still here. I'm attaching a file (actually just the first part of it because I found out earlier that I couldn't post a file of 200Kb - and regardless, I don't think anyone will want to read through this) that I found to have been created tonight, just before I started having problems. It was named t1.txt and was in the Windows folder. I thought it was strange because it seems like it's some kind of program or command file with stuff about Yahoo and rightfinder.net appears a lot in there... So I guess it might be related. I deleted this file but the problem is still there.

Following is a copy of the HijackThis log I just ran.

Thanks in advance for your help!! I really need it right now!!

Actually, I forgot to add another thing... I downloaded SpyWareBlaster tonight and in the Browser Pages it shows rightfinder.net many times, when I don't want it there !!! What exactly does that mean?

    Thanks again,

    Terry

    Hi subterry,

    Welcome at Wilders. :)

Check the following items in HijackThis.
Close all windows except HijackThis and click Fix checked:

    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer,SearchURL = http://approvedlinks.com/sp2.htm
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://www.rightfinder.net/search/
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://www.rightfinder.net/search/

    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = http://www.rightfinder.net/search/
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = http://www.rightfinder.net/search/

    R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,CustomizeSearch = http://www.rightfinder.net/search/
    R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = http://www.rightfinder.net/search/
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = http://www.rightfinder.net/search/
    O1 - Hosts: 66.118.163.109 xuto.search.msn.com

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [wcmdmgr] C:\WINDOWS\wt\updater\wcmdmgrl.exe -launch

    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Yahoo! Pager] 1

Then reboot, and download, unzip and run CWShredder written by Merijn (creator of HijackThis)

The Yahoo! Pager confuses me a little.
    It should look like this:
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Yahoo! Pager] C:\Program Files\Yahoo!\Messenger\ypager.exe -quiet

I wonder if this was changed by the spyware infection on purpose. o_O

    Regards,

    Pieter

    Hi Pieter,
Thanks a lot for your help !!
It seems like there are no more problems. CWShredder removed CWS.madfinder I think.
It even looks like IE is running faster now!!! :D

    Thanks again,

    Terry

    Hi vj,

Did you donwload the latest version of CWShredder?

If so could you please go to http://www.tomcoyote.org/hjt/, and download 'Hijack This!'.
Unzip, doubleclick HijackThis.exe, and hit "Scan".

When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log" button.
Press that, save the log as a .txt file, and copy and paste its contents into your next post.

Most of what it lists will be harmless, so do not fix anything yet.

    Regards,

    Pieter
