There was an update for Prevx last night. They apparently added Driver related file protection and Registry shell command hooking protection, gave it a new tray icon, fixed a few bugs including the error message when shutting down the service and a bug that would allow a DLL to be placed in the windows directory if it was copied there with a different extention and renamed, and it now takes a total of only 4mb of RAM!

I'm not sure what all else has changed, but those are the ones I have been able to see. I believe there are some additional IE protection modules too, but I have to admit that I haven't paid a lot of attention to those, however I believe the IE toolbars protection is new.

Prevx is really turning out to be something to be rivaled!

Finally they updated it. Forget it, i've uninstalled prevx a long time ago... i just could not tolerate the software bugs in prevx. Anyway i already have Windows XP service pack 2 which i am already very contented with.

It really is a lot better. The final version was accidently posted to download.com for a day, so I think they are pretty close to having a stable release. I emailed them asking if it was really a final release and got this in return:

This gives me the impression that the program is more ready than they are..

nadirah: Of course it's buggy, it's still beta.. you're supposed to tell them about the bugs so they can get them fixed :D This version seems to be working flawlessly on my machine so far, though, so it might be worth another go.

Does the new version now work with 9x/me or are they still stuck on the 2k/xp thing?

If you look in the PrevX terms and conditions (at time of writing) they only make their website and contents for people over 18 years of age... what about people not yet that old ?...

and this PrevX thing, how would people know it is going to stay FREE... (the home edition) and not turn into commercial ware...

How do you know PrevX is going to stay free? You don't, and i doubt it will.

well I think this is one very nice bit of software . As they say with a good firewall and Prevx ( to protect against spyware/adaware/ trojon/ worms/ intrusions and using your anti virus to protect against email infection one is very well covered . I have been trying it out and really like it .

New update available . I emailed them and received the following within a few hours ,really excellent support
    To update you must
Firstly, quit the Prevx Home application by right-clicking the icon in
the system tray or right-clicking on the title bar of the Management
Console and selecting 'Shutdown Prevx Home'. The default location of
the file is C:\Program Files\PREVX\Prevx Home. The file is called
'any_to_2.1.0.0.exe'. Double click on this file and it will run
and update your version of Prevx Home to Version 1.0. You will need to
reboot your machine for the update to take effect.
