Plymouth solution in mint 9

    As I found out yesterday, if there is a recommended update to grub 2 a configuration window with selectable options 'to keep the current version installed' or to 'install the package manager's version' appears.
    If you choose to install the package manager's version any changes you made in /etc/default/grub will be lost (for instance the GFX resolution to get a nice Plymouth).
    So in future I will opt to 'keep the current version installed'.
    @linuxforall .. is this what you would recommend ?

    The startup manager method described in mack guy's post is the safest and most easy to impelement so even if your grub gets changed due to updates, its just a matter of fixing it again with SUM.

    Actually in Ubuntu it should be BUM, boot up manager and not SUM, correct me if I am wrong.
