am having a very terrible time with my computer right now trying to remove whatever it is that is infecting it. It's been this way for about three months now and everything I have tried hasn't worked. Everytime I reboot my computer, I get a notice saying that a file in the C: directory named program could cause problems, so it needs to be renamed. For some reason, it creates a new file named "Program" everytime I reboot. If I don't delete the old ones for a while, I end up with Program1-Program8 etc.

Also, I have been getting locked out of some websites, Borders e-mail bargains don't pop up, instead I get this annoying "Flashlightsearch" page, that never finds the real page anyhow. I also got locked out of Dell Support Forums, so I couldn't even try and find a solution there. The most frequent websites I get locked out of are sites that require a seperate login page, for example Fandango.com, the DMV site for Pennsylvania, Amazon.com, and occasionally (but oddly not all the time) Collegeboard.com. I would greatly appreciate any assistance you can provide. Here is my HiJack This log:

    Hi Quik

    Download Registrar Lite from here:
    http://www.resplendence.com/download/reglite.exe

Put it in its own folder. You may want to keep this program. It is an excellent free, registry editor.

Copy and paste the follow text into the address bar, then hit 'Go':
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\URLSearchHooks

In the pane on the right are the values associated with that key.
We want to remove this one -> {CFBFAE00-17A6-11D0-99CB-00C04FD64497}_
Notice the underscore at the end, all the others with that need to go as well.

Right click on it, and select delete.
If you get a confirmation question, respond OK then close out the program.
    __________________________________________________________________________

Next - Run HijackThis, scan and when complete, remove the following entries by checking the box to the left and clicking "Fix checked":

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [TV Media] C:\Program Files\TV Media\Tvm.exe
    O16 - DPF: {56336BCB-3D8A-11D6-A00B-0050DA18DE71} (RdxIE Class) - http://software-dl.real.com/17a2eea...ip/RdxIE601.cab

Be sure you are configured to SHOW ALL FILES AND FOLDERS, including System and Hidden Files. If you don't know how to do that, check this link and follow the step-by-step directions for your Windows version.

Reboot in Safe Mode . Find and delete:

    C:\Program Files\TV Media <<-- folder

Reboot to Normal mode, run HijackThis, scan and post a fresh log.

    Hi Quik15131,

Check the following items in HijackThis.
Close all windows except HijackThis and click Fix checked:

R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [UpdReg] C:\WINDOWS\UpdReg.EXE

    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [TV Media] C:\Program Files\TV Media\Tvm.exe

Then reboot, run HijackThis again and post the new log, so we can see if it all worked out as planned.

    Regards,

    Pieter

I really appreciate the help guys. The past few times I had done the reboot the program file didn't pop back up, but this past time it did. I really don't know what it is. I have scanned it now with Norton, McAfee, Housecall, and AVG as well as Spyware S&D, Adaware, and Bulletproof but none of them found anything wrong with it, but something obviously is if it keeps replicating itself on my harddrive. I hope someone can tell me what it is :doubt: . Thanks for everything thus far. Here's the latest HijackThis LOG

    Hi Quik15131,

Please remove any BulletProofSoft software, for it will only make matters worse if anything.

Can you doubleclick the C.\ drive icon under My Computer. Then click the p on your keyboard and see if you encounter any files or folders whose names start with Program. The only one allowed being the Program Files folder. The rest will need to be (re)moved.

    Regards,

    Pieter

Thank you guys for your help thus far, but unfortunately it has not stopped. I deleted bulletproof's scanner a while back, and continually delete the "program" file but something keeps creating new ones. It used to only be when I would restart the computer, but now it does it at random intervals. It also has been attempting to run this file "program" when I reboot, which it never did before. Has anybody heard of this happening before?

It also continues to lock me out of some websites that I know do exist. The latest casualty has been my University mail system, it won't even let me load up the page to login (www.my.pitt.edu) I am sure that this website is still valid, as my sister is able to access it from her apartement.

If anyone has information on this I would be eternally grateful.

Thanks again for the help thus far!

    Hi Quik15131,

I am thinking along the lines of a problem similar to this

Can you mail me one of these " Program" files?
See if I can figure out where it comes from.
Sent it (preferably zipped) to pieterATwilderssecurity.org (replace AT with @)

    Regards,

    Pieter
