    hey guys,

Can someone please check my HijackThis Logfile and tell me what if what i should fix.

i had the Trojan.Linst virus and i think i still have it. Norton Anti-virus had detected it earleir and i quarantined it and deleted it from the quarantine list, but its still there. i have Trojan remover trial version which is updated but it doesnt detect it either.

i have done what the symantec website and trend micro website says but with no luck. I have ad aware and that detected some spyware and stuff but still having trouble.

the reason i think i still have it is coz
whenever i boot my PC just as windows loads i hear a clicking sound, (The sound u hear when norton detects a virus).

the main problem is when i connect to the net, once i open Internet Explorer window my mouse pointer wont move properly, kind of sluggish as if someone else is moving it and scrolling is sluggish, it only goes back to normal once the webpage has completely downloaded or if Internet explorer is not open.

Maybe i do not have the trojan.linst virus but something else some spyware that is interfering with Internet explorer, i am not sure!!

I downloaded Hijackthis and it came up with some sidebar.smarter stuff in my registry, can someone pls tell me what i can safely fix using Hijackthis.

Here is the HijackThis Log File

    Hi JoeSchmo,

Check the items listed below in HijackThis, close all windows except HijackThis and click Fix checked:

    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,SearchURL = C:\WINDOWS\search.htm
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://sidebar.smarter.com/
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://www.smarter.com/index.php?sidebar=1

    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,CustomizeSearch = C:\WINDOWS\search.htm
    R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://sidebar.smarter.com/
    R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://www.smarter.com/index.php?sidebar=1
    R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://www.smarter.com/index.php?sidebar=1
    R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = http://www.smarter.com/index.php?sidebar=1
    R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,CustomizeSearch = C:\WINDOWS\search.htm

    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,SearchAssistant = C:\WINDOWS\search.htm
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,CustomizeSearch = http://www.terra.es/personal7/rusgirl/s/search.htm

    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [VOMPEKIJUIUQO] C:\WINDOWS\QOSWUSVNSNRQ.exe

Then reboot into safe mode and delete:
    C:\WINDOWS\QOSWUSVNSNRQ.exe

Then (still in safe mode) use the Disk Cleanup Utility to empty all your Temp folder.

Post a new log when you are done, so we can see if everything worked out as planned.

    Regards,

    Pieter

    Hi Pieter,

Thanks for ur response. i did as u said but when i reboot into safe mode i cannot find QOSWUSVNSNRQ.exe in Windows, maybe hijackthis deleted it.

Since i am running WinME i disabled system restore before using hijackthis, is it safe to enable it now?

here is the new hijackthis log

    Hi JoeSchmo,

Your log looks good now, so you can enable System Restore.

If you want to experiment with the proxy, better do that in IE > Tools> Internet-options > LAN settings > Proxy

Fixing it with Hijackthis is not so easy to undo.

    Regards,

    Pieter
