I have used spybot search and destroy and have come up clean. I have also down loaded Hijack This v1.97.7 and my log file is contained below. Several websites have hijacked my computer: In my attempt to deal with it I have down loaded Spy Sweeper who warns me of the hyjackings and let's me decide if I want to reset my homepage, however the hijacker is still on my system. Additionally I have de-installed my mozilla and installed the 1.7 version. The hijacker will not cease and desist. Any help booting them from my system will be greatly appricated, but also please let me know how I can insure that I do not get reinvaded. Thank you. (System is windows XP)

THANK YOU SO MUCH for all of your help. I really appricate it. I have been trying to delete that "detect lies" file, but have been unable to. The hp help desk said that it was part of the operating system :p However they thought that it was a strange name for a system file. Anyway, I tried to do what you asked, but ran into a few snags. Please forgive me, but I'm still learning how to do all of this. The problems I had were as follows. 1. While I could delete everything in the folder C:/progra~1/freedu~1/ and C:/progra~1/blehsa~1 However, I couldnot figure out how to delete the folder. As a check I looked to make sure that the "detect lies" file was deleted from the startup tab under msconfig, however it is still there. o_O Additionally I noticed that the following back ups appeared in the folder where I download files to the file names are named backup-20040615-043119-112
    " " " 186
    " " " 687
    " " " 908
    " " " 919
    " " " 938

    Should I delete those files?

Additionally when I run a search on C:/progra~1/freedu~1/ and a C:/progra~1/blehsa~1/ nothing comes up.

(Please note that I did the show all hidden files command.)

The following is my Hijack This log once completing all the steps you mentioned and all the checks I mentioned above. Please let me know what I should do next. Thank you so much.

Your log looks fine but you need to boot into normal mode. Click Start:Run and type in msconfig. Check the box for Normal Start and hit ok. Post a new log.

To delete the folder you will need to use Explorer and find them.
    This is a windows abbreviation:
    C:/progra~1/freedu~1/

    You need to look for:
    c:\Program Files\freedu... <--folder name starts with freedu

The same for the other folder.

The backup files are created by Hijack This and can be deleted when we are done. :D

We've got huge problems. I alredy figured out that I was not rebooted in normal mode, and fixed that. on a hunch I ran spybot, and it found something and destroyed it, but it would not let me see the name of the incultrator. WHen I loged on, the following error message appeared on my screen. "Rebooting Virtual Truck: Please make sure that the virtual truck CD is in the CD-ROM." I had this problem before, and we think that it may be due to Comcast's CD. Anyway, I am also getting adware placed on my system without my even going to any other site, but this one and I received an an error message, but am afraid to press ok for fear that it is a trojan horse. When I tried to copy and paste the message, the item brought me to the following web site: http://64.235.246.32/?rev_var=12183-205809. The warning was in an unnamed Internet explorer browser window. Additionally, my firewall has been disabled, but the place where I check to enable the firewall is already checked. I am about to cut off my access to the internet and will sweet talk someone to continue this correspondence once I am protected. Please let me run a few more of my antivirus etc software prior plus hijjak this and I will get back to you!!!

Here is the log file. Some time later my spybot found purity scan. It removed it, but I continue to have problems.
Thank you so much for your help.

Also, detect lies is still not removed from my start tab on msconfig

Ok, run Hijack This and check these boxes:

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [dogtool] C:\PROGRA~1\BLEHSA~1\download lies.exe

    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [WNSA] C:\WINDOWS\System32\wnstssv.exe
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Aaou] C:\Documents and Settings\TBegel\Application Data\amee.exe

Close all browser and explorer windows and hit 'fix checked'.
C:\PROGRA~1\BLEHSA~1\ <--this one seems to be gone already but check
    C:\WINDOWS\System32\wnstssv.exe
    C:\Documents and Settings\TBegel\Application Data\amee.exe

Reboot into 'SAFE MODE'. How to reboot into 'SAFE MODE'

Delete (items ending in \ means to delete the folder):

You may need to show hidden files to delete them. How to show all hidden and system files

Reboot into normal mode and post a fresh log in this thread.

Every time that I log in Spybot tries to clean out one virus. Purity scan has also been showing up on my system and been needing to be cleaned out. For some reason I could not access the C:\Documents and Settings\TBEGEL\Application Data\amee while I was serving as Administrator. I did make sure to unhide all files. When I loged in as myself, I was able to log in and access the Application and Data folder. However, I could not find it to delete. I also am seeing some suspect files in my folders. Two of their names are w9x popen and unwise.exe Also in my start up tab under msconfig, everything left in there has been checked. My computer is running very slowly. Are there some things that I can safely and securly uncheck so that it can run better.

Thank you for all of your help!

Your log looks clean now. Take another look now and see if you can delete:
    C:\Documents and Settings\TBegel\Application Data\amee.exe

If it's not there then maybe Spybot got it this time. :D

Are you receiving any popups or hijacked pages now?

Not sure about 'virtual truck' . It doesn't seem necessary but I don't see it in your log. You can try checking this box and hitting fix:
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [RecoverFromReboot] C:\WINDOWS\Temp\RecoverFromReboot.exe

Reboot and see if the error returns. You can restore this change in the backups utility of Hijack This if it doesn't fix it.

As for the popups, what site is the popup coming from? You can right click on it and select properties to see this.

Finally, Download VX2Finder from this link:
    http://www.downloads.subratam.org/VX2Finder.exe

Run Vx2Finder click on the *click to find VX2.BetterInternet* button. Then click *make log*.

Copy and paste the contents of the log into your next reply here.

I am terribly sorry for the exceptionally long delay in responding to your message. I greatly appricate your very generous help. I think we may be nearing the end of this mess. I was able to delete the file you suggested, and the virtual truck message disappeared. The following is my Hijack This log.
