ERROR Playing Quicktime clips in Winamp (w/ k-Lite Codec Pack)?

Is it possible to play QUICKTIME files in either Winamp or WMP?

Is there a codec or plugin that would enable a .MOV file to be played in anything but a Quicktime Player?

I'm looking for a solution (if one exists) to play/display Quicktime clips in Winamp or WMP 11.

    Thanks.

Converting means everytime loss of quality. In the rar case that i need to watch a mov clip, i use MediaPlayer Classic with QTA.

I agree, but in most cases can you actually see or hear the difference
    without having expensive equipment

If you use very good software for converting you won't even recognize it if you watch the clips only on you PC. In that you are right.

    Hi,

You can play MOV files in Winamp if you have the proper codec installed. You have to add the file type in winamp in the options.

Winamp Pereferences - Plug-Ins - Input - Nullsoft DirectShow (open it)
add the ext MOV and then play it in Winamp. Works like a charm.

Thanks to everyone for your help. I finally got the MOV file to work in Winamp by downloading the QT Alternative codecs (minus the Classic Player). Worked w/o a hitch. :)

I just have one last quick question regarding MOV files, QT alternative and Winamp.

I just installed the latest version of K-Lite Mega Codec Pack.

Do I need to configure the settings in either Winamp player or K-Lite (Quicktime, ffdshow, XviD, etc) in order to get corrrect video and audio playback when playing MOV (or any other files)?

    Thanks.

As as I know, K-Lite Mega Codec Pack has default optimized settings (compatibility and etc).

Just use K-Lite Mega Codec Pack from www.codecguide.com. Select "Lots of stuffs" as the installation option. After install, you will be able to launch WMP, and manually select the Quicktime file to play. If you have DSP plugin like DFX for WMP, the DSP effect will be applied too.

    Hope this helps.

Whenever I try playing a Quicktime movie file on Winamp....it keeps crashing and won't play at all. I've tried this with several files (including using WMP)....but it's still crashing (closing Winamp).

Anyone know what the issue might be and if there is a fix for this? Thanks.

    ---------------------------
    UPDATE:

I was finally able to get the QT files to play by uninstalling the K-Lite MEGA Codec and installing the K-Lite FULL Codec Pack + Quicktime Alternative Codec (seperately).

For whatever reason, the QT Alt. were not working with the K-Lite MEGA Pack, but when installed seperately...it seemed to work. Very strange.

BTW when playing a MOV file (in either WMP or Winamp)....how come I don't see the ffdshow tray icon (as seen in this screenshot http://img150.imageshack.us/img150/4109/untitled2ys9.jpg)

Is this a settings issue with ffdshow or K-Lite? Thanks.
