Here's a review of Pinguy OS, a remastered Ubuntu fork, including live session, installation and use, covering topics like look & feel, desktop layout, theme, Wireless, Bluetooth, Samba sharing, multimedia - Flash, MP3 playback, Apple trailers (QuickTime), Microsoft Media Server (MMS), desktop effects, applications, integration problems, branding issues, stability, boot time, system resources, suspend & resume, some errors, and more. Enjoy.

lol really missed the point about the OS. A distro is a lot more then what defaulted apps it comes with. Just because it is based on Ubuntu doesn't mean it is the same. Lots of work was done on fixing bugs and improving the Ubuntu base. Pinguy OS works with more hardware out of the box then what Ubuntu does. Saying Pinguy OS is the same as Ubuntu is like calling Ubuntu the same as Debian. Granted I am using over 90% of Ubuntu's code but as new versions come out more and more things are being changed with the Ubuntu base.

Also why review the 10.10? You can't even download it any more. There is only versions of 10.04.2 and 11.04 available. 10.10 was the oldest version of Pinguy OS. 10.04.2 was a point release and was released after 10.10. If 11.04 wasn't out when the review was done you should of at least done it on 10.04.2

    Got to love this:

Even if it is functionally superior it shouldn't be used? So what use inferior non-functional apps?

So people don't use their PC's for media on a daily basis?

    Hello,

Media - I meant Apple trailers and MMS, less popular choices, not general media.
Apps - Power apps are good for skilled users; average users need a working base that people on the "outside" can help them with.

I tested 10.10 because that's what I took for a spin, it was the most relevant release at the time, wrote the review and placed it in the article pipe, which has 2-3 months worth of material in there.

    Cheers,
    Mrk
