Currently evaluating 64 bit Windows7 (7077 build) and experienced the same today after an upgrade from a previous version (7000) ......................

Uninstalled, reboot, install, update seems to have cured the issue.

Don't know how relevant it is to your problem but the technology is the same ........

I've seen this on a normal Vista PC, a reboot solved the issue.

4.0.437.0 seems to have fixed it.

I had this issue after installing iTunes 8.2
I repeated the step (system restore) many times with the same problem... only solution was to uninstall ESET and install iTunes then install ESET again.

Just to keep things clear - iTunes was not involved here.

hi guys, i'm encountering the same problem with ESS v4.0.437.

My system is XP Pro SP3, fully patched. Same goes to ESS.

This issue started happening after i tried F-Secure Internet Security 2010 (Trial). FYI, before this, ESS was running fine.

Today, I removed F-Secure IS 2010. Did a full registry/temp folder cleanup, restarted, then re-installed ESS.

ESS works fine except the Firewall module giving the error: "personal firewall rules could not be converted for unknown reason".

I've tried numerous ways: repair, uninstall/reinstall, etc. all didn't fix this problem. I've even tried the ESETUninstaller.exe 4.0.8.0 too.

    Any suggestions/solutions to fix this?

    thx!

For those getting the error "personal firewall rules could not be converted for unknown reason", please do the following:

1, uninstall ESS and install the latest release version 4.0.474. Should the problem persist, uninstall it and try installing the build 4.2.22. If it doesn't make any difference, contact customer care and provide them the following:
    - SysInspector log
    - em008_32.dat from the ESET installation folder
    - files "c:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\ESET\ESET Smart Security\EpfwUser.dat" and "EpfwTemp.dat" (or the corresponding folder c:\users\... on Windows Vista and newer)
    - complete memory dump from the moment the error occurs (instructions for generating a memory dump are available here)

Does setting the firewall integration with the system to "Only scan application protocols" followed by a system restart make the error disappear?

As I wrote: "If it doesn't make any difference, contact customer care and provide them the following..."
You, as an ESET reseller, should be able to contact ESET partner support directly via GPC and provide them the necessary stuff. As for the dump, upload it to an ftp server and provide a link to it.
