Decided to give Puran a whirl and after a defrag the cluster map didn't look as neat as after a smart placement defrag with PD 10 with gaps here and there.

But to be honest this mid range quad seemed to like it in feeling snappier all around o_O

    Hmmm, wonder why that is?

The disk-layout presentation shown by all degraggers is an approximate representation (at best). It would be very difficult to present an accurate picture of the typical multi-platter drive.

I say go with the one that results in 'snappier' performance - not much else really matters! - I use and recommend Puran Defrag to my friends and btw, they just released v6.1 which among other enhancements is Win7 compatible. :thumb:

I installed KIS2010 on my laptop and I couldn't perform boot-time defrag using PD. It kept giving me an error "insufficient freespace to defragment file (...)". The error persisted even when I uninstalled KIS. Any ideas? o_O

try to run a normal defrag on the drive but use consolodate. then run the boot time again. one thing about perfectdisk i see is it always wants to put the mft and page in the same place and if there is not enough space there where it wants to put it, it will say that.

It seems that the boot-time defrag error I got was in fact a bug. It's been fixed with a patch released today. Problem solved :D
