Now this is strange. I use eScan, and I got the same results as you when I ran the tests...except for the Firewall tests. I use eScan's NetBIOS firewall/Remote Access File Rights Feature along with Windows Firewall SP2 and I got a full 100%!

If you got a 100% on the firewall that must mean there is something wrong with my mcafee desktop firewall.

Does anyone know what to do or should i switch to another make of firewall.

I'll be buying McAfee 9 next week, at that time I'll let you know my findings.

I checked the most Common and Troublesome Internet Ports using ronjor's link and it said ports 1025 and 5000 were open so i failed. Does anyone know what to do to fix this.

Did you confirm this with the other tests? This particular scanner may be showing erroneous results.

Go here to the PCFlank Advanced Port Scanner:
    http://www.pcflank.com/scanner1.htm

You can enter specific ports to scan, separated by commas. Enter "1025,5000" and see what it reports.

That was an interesting test - I just ran it on my system.

PC-cillin detected and removed eicar, Trojan Hunter stopped two trojans and Spy Sweeper intercepted 2 of 3 shield-violation attempts. Final score was 100/100/75.

On restart, PC-cillin reported malfunction of tmproxy, phoned home and repaired itself by re-installing tmproxy - hands-off automatic repair. I was impressed by the immediate auto-repair of PC-cillin.

On next restart, Spy Sweeper reported a violation of the 'Startup Shield'. The test program had installed itself into the startup list. So Spy Sweeper did detect the third of the three anti-spyware tests - just belatedly.

That was such fun that I might do it again, using SpywareDoctor in place of Spy Sweeper.

Using also Randy_Bell link it says both ports are still open. what does that mean, is my firewall faulty, not very good, or is my computer faulty.

What can i do to fix it. Should i switch to something else like zone alarm?

Most tests like this are not always %100 accurate.

Anthony....instead of closing your thread....I have merged it with an already ongoing thread concerning this same Test site.

    Let the discussion continue.

I ran the test on my home box (XP Home, SP1, XP Firewall off) I have a Linksys router/switch with a built-in firwall, a 2-wire router with firewall and NOD32. SpywareBlaster, Spybot w/ teatimer, ad-aware.

    Test results were as follows:

    Preventing a hacker: 100%
Preventing a virus: 50% (although NOD notified me of everything that came up)
Preventing Spyware: 75% (spybot notified me of everything as well)

I do not use this test as conclusive evidence of security because I know NOD is not going to delete a file that is not infected. After it notified me of everything and deleted it, the file was gone so I know 50% is not correct.

Other tests I have taken show 100% in all categories so I'm not too worried :)

    Sorry it's the
    Distributed Transaction Coordinator service

Allow me to elaborate on my advice.... That UnPnP utility will disable the SSDP Discovery service which will in turn close port 5000. Closing the Messenger service, Task Scheduler and the other will close port 1025. What's happening is probably this: your McAfee firewall is alerting you that svchost.exe wants to access the internet because it is a Micro$oft application you allow it. Then these services get to listen over the internet on these, their default ports.

I love how I directed negative comments at no individual in particular, but rather spoke only in generalizations, but, still, "staff members" can tell me (1) To "get a grip"; (2) That I don't "give back to the community"; (3) That I have a bad attitude; and (4) That I may be referring to myself as a "moron".

Nice. What a bunch of ignorant damned hypocrites. How about living up to your own rules for once? If you wanted to feel like a bigshot, your message would have been better suited to a PM than a post on this forum.

    Nameless,

Done and dealt with. Either stick to the way we run this place, or don't. It's up to you - period.

    regards,
