patching programs

    Looks like you can download the tar.gz from the launchpad site. I imagine you'll have to make and install the file manually, but I didn't look at the downloadable to be certain.

    Is it safe? You can inspect the code yourself and determine that- that's the beauty of open source. However... if you don't have the skills necessary to do such an inspection (as I don't), then you're at the mercy of others reviewing it for you.

    Are there no other alternatives to replace it rather than patch it? I would be inclined to go that route myself.

    I will wait for the program to be patched.I will stay on the safe side :)
