How do you select an external USB hard drive for backup and recovery in Paragon Backup and Recovery free?

The program should be able to find an external drive once you start the backup wizard and you just select it. If the program is not finding the drive, I'd suggest plugging the drive into a different usb slot.

Is the USB drive showing up in Windows Explorer before you start Paragon?

If not, then you should go into Windows Disk Management and assign a drive letter to it most likely. It will show up in Disk Management as a being there but essentially unknown. This is a problem if you are swapping multiple USB items items. I think Windows gets a setting in the registry for a drive letter and then when the device doesn't conform to what it thinks should be there it doesn't assign a drive letter.

The USB drive should be running and recognized before you start Paragon. If you change USB devices it is best to restart Paragon.
