On my laptop I have XP installed (from a TI).
On a second external HD is Vista installed (also from a TI)
DD10 and OSS only detect 'Unknow Operating System'
Even when I disconnect the external HD, it shows only an 'Unknow OS'
Without OSS my laptop boots perfectly from XP.

    What do I wrong?

    Thanks,

If Vista is installed onto an external drive, I'm surprised it works. In any case, it probably set itself up to boot from the internal drive. I haven't tried Vista on an external, but previous versions of Windows won't run from an external drive.

Did you have XP and Vista booting properly using Vista's boot manager before installing OSS?

If Vista was restored from a TI image, did it ever boot properly and run? If not, did you try and boot from the Vista DVD and do a Repair?

    Thanks for your reply!

I was hoping to be able to boot Vista from an external drive by using OSS. But I couldn't start booting because it wasn't detected by OSS.
I have two TI-images (XP and Vista) created separately on my laptop and when I restore one of them (XP or Vista) they boot properly.
Now I am trying to have them both installed and to use OSS. Therefore I used an external drive to install Vista (also by resoring the Vista image).

But I am wondering why even a single OS cannot be detected by OSS! Each time OSS only detects an 'unknow Operating System'

    Best regards,

Make sure you're using the latest build of DD 10 (build 2,160).

Since you have TI images, you can mess around a little and try and get it to work. It may work better to restore Vista and then install DD/OSS in Vista. OSS may then see Vista.

If you restore Vista to the drive and it doesn't boot, boot to the Vista DVD and run the Repair. Once Vista is booting correctly, install OSS from Vista. Hopefully, OSS will recognize Vista and add it to the boot menu. Then you can shrink the Vista partition if necessary and restore the XP partition. OSS should pick it up automatically.

If XP is recognized as "Unknown" you can use the method in this thread to fix it: Windows XP detected as "Unknown"
