    I followed the links and this seems quite interesting. I would like to try this but perhaps someone more experienced than this total newbie can answer my query. I read the 4 pages of the long thread but most of it is either beyond me or does not address my concern.

    Are there any implications when using this opendns with respect to internet banking or using a host file?

    i use it,

    and browsing is nice and fast.

    I am using their servers in conjunction with Bind here in SUSE 11.... Works very well, no lookup delays, etc...

    Yes and since it also block downloads from those webpages, then it is like anti-malware protection, which actually can not by bypassed locally. ;)
