It can be useful. Its not always practical to work with an installed Office suite and you may need to sync documents between different computers. If your computer crashes or succumbs to a malware infection compromising critical data, if you've backed it up to the cloud, it can still be retrieved. So there is a place for cloud-based Office suite computing.
