    The people that worry about the "safety and security" of open-source software are either:

    A) Shills for big software companies looking for a contract (purposeful disinformation).

    B) Idiot policy makers who are clueless about technology (ignorance).

    I have 9 years experience writing Healthcare software (on prominent nationwide systems).

    We use a mixture of closed source and open source software and I can tell you that the software licence has nothing to do with the quality (security, bugs etc) of the software.
    Its down to how well the projects are run, how well written, how well tested and maintained the code is, how well configured and managed the systems that run this software.

    This applies to ANY software IMHO.
