OA has been having problems with intermittent outages on their servers recently. I believe they are in the process of moving to another host to solve the problem (though I could be wrong on this)

Install on OA can't be completed without the install program communicating with their servers.

I am uncomfortable with OA connecting to their site as it does. Is it only for the license piece or will there be more; aside from updates...
Also are there any good threads someone could direct me to concerning OA...........how does it stand on the HIPS pecking order ?

Online Armor has a superb support forum. It's over Yonder-ways.

So does SSM. You kin find it Over Thar.

SSM is more configurable than OA. OA is more friendly. As to protection... you won't go wrong with either of these.

    Hiya Rainwalker,

Online Armor connects to our website under the following conditions:

    1) As part of licence validation/activation.

    2) If you opt to share information about programs you allow or block, then the decision you made, along with technical information about the program is sent to our server. We do not associate licence information with programs the user runs so there is no way for us to tell what you (or anyone else is running).

    3) When you visit a website in the "protected" zone, you perform a query against our trusted DNS for comparison purposes to protect against any skulduggery going on at your local PC.

    4) To check for automatic updates, or when you manually request an update.

For various reasons, our server have been battered by load over the last 3 weeks. We've been running off a backup server and tomorrow, we plan to complete the move back to our primary machine. We'll also be distributing some of the functions around more than one machine to reduce/balance the load.

    Mike
