    JerryM,

I'll simply put all this up for you:

1)Why MWAV showed the wrong virus count

When you downloaded and got eScan Free working, as the updates are very old doing the weekly update does not work properly.

You have to download the 'Complete' Update on the same website. From then on, in your MWAV folder, there is a file called 'kavupd' you have to use this file (no need to see black box, simply double click) in order to update eScan.

It will download some 100 files which will take about 1 hour and 15 minutes if you have a dial-up connnection...

But this file places all the updates into C:\bases\

So you'll have to copy the files from this folder to your MWAV folder every time you update.

Or else you create a folder 'C:\bases' and install MWAV into that folder (mwavscan.com should be in C:\bases\, NOT C:\bases\MWAV\)

If you are again having the problem of 'Scan Clean':

1)Start--->Run--->type 'cmd' without the quotes of course :)
2)in the DOS Box type 'cd C:\bases' without the quotes
3)Then type 'mwavscan/sc' without the quotes.
    4)your done.

This way, when you update using 'kavupd' it will automatically place itself into eScan. You can create a desktop shortcut for MWAV for easy access.

Post back if you have problems OK? ;)

    Best Regards,
    Firecat

Hmmm... looks like kavupd.exe (from eScan MWAV 4.4.7) downloads just part of the SuperSecure Database, just the x-files.avc file.

    I have only this file => 02/26/2005 04:13 PM 27,065 x-files.avc

Hmmm, I wonder what the current MWAV downloadso_O

Including the SuperSecure databases in the auto-downloads

The bottom of this page SuperSecure Database Option says,
When I do this (from a Command Prompt ;)), I see "they" already have "updates_x":
    Code:
    C:\bases>find "updates" kavupd.exe

    ---------- KAVUPD.EXE
    ftp://downloads-us1.kaspersky-labs.com/updates_x
    ftp://downloads1.kaspersky-labs.com/updates_x
    ftp://updates3.kaspersky-labs.com/updates_x
    ftp://updates1.kaspersky-labs.com/updates_x
    http://downloads-us1.kaspersky-labs.com/updates_x
    http://downloads1.kaspersky-labs.com/updates_x
    http://updates-us1.kaspersky-labs.com/updates_x
    http://updates3.kaspersky-labs.com/updates_x
    http://updates2.kaspersky-labs.com/updates_x
    http://updates1.kaspersky-labs.com/updates_x
    I wonder why ALL the SuperSecure files (Riskware.avc, Pornware.avc, Adware.avc, X-files.avc) are not downloadedo_O

When I install eScan I see that many of the AVC files are already there, it is downloading X-Files only becuase only that file has changed its size..I think.

Hi Firecat! I am currently using Kav 5 Personal with extended database enabled. As far as it seems SuperSecure databses can only be downloaded through Kav pro & Workstation. Now after reading here with the free E san utility would i be able to download the Supersecure bases? More or less that is free? :ninja: I would like to use the esan as a back up if i able to download the X bases then. Somehelpful hints would be appriciated....Cheers :)

Re: Including the SuperSecure databases in the auto-downloads

You should find the other three in your MWAV folder...you see, kavupd.exe does a file size check of what you've got...and if SuperSecure bases are of the same size...then it wont download in your C:\bases folder!

Now, since you are having the correct virus count...I dont think you need to worry.

Yes...I think your link is correct.

And eScan uses the Xbases, no problems...just read the thread properly.

Ahhh. I DO NOT have that folder... see how I "installed" eScan here https://www.wilderssecurity.com/showpost.php?p=385514&postcount=67

I'm not, I'm just trying to understand... I'm the pitbull type person that MUST understand "stuff". :) ;) :D

I'm not 100% sure that statement is true... like I have said, I ONLY have X-files.avc.

    Extended Database = (Riskware.avc + Pornware.avc + Adware.avc)

    SuperSecure Database = (Riskware.avc + Pornware.avc + Adware.avc + X-files.avc)

So, the FREE version does NOT contain ANY of the Extended Database, it only contains 1/4 of SuperSecure Database.

    Well MushfiQ,

You download the mwav.exe, then open it with WinZip...then you extract it to whatever location...and then there will be a file called 'kavupd' in that folder where you extracted MWAV...double click on this to start the update process.

I have downloaded the MWAV 4.8.4 and see that the zip file contains adware.avc, pornware.avc, riskware.avc as well as x-files.avc

So I'll have to see with MWAV 4.4.7

    Regards,

BTW Firecat...what are the major differences between 4.4.7 vs 4.8.7 ..considering as both are free utilities? :)

arite Firecat...i have just installed & made a folder call X Base & it automatically pops ups & shows the current extended database as same as Kav Personal show. Now Just clicked Kavupd ese file & show up a dos promt window & seemes liek it is updating & it automatically chose updates_x ! So i dint have to do nothing basically. So is it updating the X Bases automatically o_O Then again the list which i am seeing it is downloading...seems like those are already in the folder or is it verwriting them? & are those extracting it in that X Base folder...a lil confused :)

Wherever you put MWAV...it will copy your update files to <Drive name, mostly C):/bases folder. Now if you have extracted MWAV to this folder then it will automatically update itself, or else you will have to copy the files with extension of .avc to your MWAV folder and overwrite your current files.
