You have to run it from the command prompt. The old style dos prompt. If you have an issue let me know I can make a batch file for you to do it for you. It will update it for you then run the program.

I had the strange phenomenen of having to run from command prompt too. I removed all traces of it and started from a fresh download and it worked again.

    webmedic,

Thanks, I will see what I can figure out. Strangely enough, on my old computer with W98 it worked fine and showed scan clean, while the same download only gave scan on my WXP SP2.

Upon reflection, I do not know what "command prompt" means. Can you give me some instructions so that I could find it?
    Thanks,
    Jerry

Hi JerryM. Click on Start...Click Run....Type "command" in the box, without the parantheses. This will get you into dos. You will see a little line blinking. That's where you type in the "command prompt" I don't know what you are supposed to type in though. To get out of dos, simply type "exit" without the parantheses.

I decided to install mwav again. On my computer running W98 the scanner comes up with the scan clean, but on my new computer with W XP SP2 Home, I cannot get the scan clean. I can't figure out what to do with the "run." I went to start run and typed in command. The screen came up, and I typed in mwavscan.com /anything, but the "reply" was that it could not identify the program. Should I have typed Desktop mwavscan.com /anything?

It is a puzzle to me why W98 gives the clean option, but the XP does not.

I am not very competent in the area of computers, so any instructions will have to be specific for me to understand and execute.

    Thanks,
    Jerry

No here's what you do - On command prompt type mwavscan.com/sc then check. By saying 'anything' it means any command from the thread I mentioned earlier.

But you try mwavscan.com/sc for now and see what happens.

OK for an easy way here's what you do:-

Suppose you extracted the MWAV to C:\MWAV

then you go to command prompt, then type there first ''cd..'' till you reach root directory c:

now type ''cd MWAV" (if name of folder is more than 6 characters long, type ******~1 (* stands for first six characters of folder name), then you can run mwavscan.com/sc

    ALTERNATE METHOD:

Click 'Start' , 'Run' and in the box type <Drive name>:/<Folder Name>/mwavscan.com/sc

    HI Firecat,
[Click 'Start' , 'Run' and in the box type <Drive name>:/<Folder Name>/mwavscan.com/sc]

I downloaded and installed mwav to a folder on my desktop. It is named mwav.

So is the following the correct way to do it?

Start, Run, and type in Desktop:/mwav/mwavscan.com/sc

    Thanks for your patience.

Based on info from Anthony on another thread I THINK that this is the path.

    Start - Run C:/DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS/MY NAME/DESKTOP/MWAV/MWAVSCAN.COM/SC

I suppose it does not matter if caps or used or lower case?

Is this the correct way? Or do I need to go to command to dos, and then type in the above?

    Thanks,
    Jerry

    JerryM,

You can use both ways. This should work too. If it doesn't you'll have to use the command prompt, try this first.

But remember that in command prompt, if you want to get into a folder type ''cd <folder name, use the '~1' if name exceeds six characters>''

and to get out of a folder you need to type "cd.."

Now you'll find MWAV in this folder:

    C:/DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS/MY NAME/DESKTOP

    or

    C:/DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS/ALL USERS/DESKTOP

(in command prompt, All users folder should be typed as alluse~1)

No, it does not matter whether folder name is in caps or lowercase.

If you want to know what the '/sc' suffix means, it means "Scan Clean"

    Have a great day :)

    Warm Regards,
    Firecat

If webmedic is right once you get this done, you wont have to go through putting the /sc suffix from then onwards (i.e. next time you run after this)...

I use DrWeb® Scanner for Win9X/Me/NT/2000/XP on computers with other AV.
DrWeb Scanner can run on any computer without installation.
First install DrWeb on ones computer.
Then write next files from installed DrWeb on CD-RW:
    Drweb32.dll
    DrWeb32.ini
    drweb32.key
    Drweb32w.exe
    drwebase.vdb
    drw432xx.vdb

    In section [Windows] DrWeb32.ini
    I modified string:
    VirusBase = "*.vdb"
    on
    VirusBase = "*.vdb","a:\*.vdb"
To be able load from floppy new addons,
    and added string:
    LogFileName = "c:\Drweb32w.log"

    Addons download page:
    http://download.drweb.com/bases

PS. drweb32.key mast be commercial, not demo!

    Firecat,

Thanks for the help, and all others also. I have tried everything with and without command prompt, and the paths given plus others. For some reason I cannot get it recognized.

I am going to give it up.
    Thanks again.

    Firecat,
    Good Morining.
I can't recall the exact words, but it is that the path of Desktop is not recognized.

If I go to start - run- and type in the path to mwav it is recognized and the folder is opened. However, I can't get past that.

OK. Here is what I have done. I have deleted the program entirely. I have the downoaded exe that I can install to my C Programs Files. If I did that would the following procedure work?

Start - Run -command - and when the black DOS screen comes up type C://Program Files/mwav/mwavscan.com/sc

I am not as competent as you think, and I do not understand what you mean when you say [But remember that in command prompt, if you want to get into a folder type ''cd <folder name, use the '~1' if name exceeds six characters>''
and to get out of a folder you need to type "cd.."]

Accordingly, can you give me detailed instructions as to exactly what I should type in and what I should see, and how to get in and out of a folder using "cd"?

I know this is simple to most on this forum, but it is not to me, and if I am going to "get it" I must have more detailed instructions. Sorry for my lack of knowledge.
I am also a little tentative to do much on my own for fear I will mess up my computer, and then have a real problem.
Now I am going to confess. When I graduated from college in Mechanical Engineering, we used slide rules. That was in 1957 so I think you can see that I did not grow up using computers. I remember a calculator that my professor had. It was mechanical like a typewriter, except that it did calculations. I sure did wish I could have something like that, but it cost about $100 and I did not have that kind of money as a college student.
My career was not as an engineer but as a soldier.

    Firecat,

“First I'll need info on which Windows your running...Is it Windows 98, or Windows Me,”

I am running Windows XP Home SP2

“BTW your (or were) a soldier...we should all salute you! Good day sir! ”
Thanks, I never did anything special, just went where I was sent and did what I could.

“Can I add you to my buddy list JerryM?”
Sure, I am pleased that you would want to.

Thanks for the help. All here are very understanding and helpful. I am not in a hurry, so just when you get time.

OK So your running Windows XP Home SP2....just make sure you are having the MWAV version 4.4.7 OK?

So in that case I can give you easier method for DOS Box...

    1)Click Start
    2)Click Run
3)In the box type 'cmd' ----> This is easier to manage than 'command' you'll see later
    4)Now the black box will say <Drive name, C:, D: or E:>/Documents and Settings/(user name)>

5)Now if you type "cd.." it will take you out of <user name> directory and to 'Documents and Settings'. If you do this again it will take you to root directory i.e. simply C:\

6)Now that you have reached C:\ type "cd Program Files" (you don't have to do the six-character thingy if you use "cmd" instead of "command" in step 3)

7)Once your in Program Files type "cd MWAV" this will take you to the folder named 'MWAV'

8-->Once your in that folder type mwavscan/sc, and thats all.

Let us know how it went.

    Best Regards,
    Firecat

    Firecat,

I attempted to do as you said. Maybe I did not fully understand it, but I can't get you out of <user name> directory and to 'Documents and Settings'.

Here are some things I tried and the response.

    C:\Documents and Settings\Jerry M. Miles>cdProgram Files cd kaspersky\
'cdProgram' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
    operable program or batch file.

    C:\Documents and Settings\Jerry M. Miles>\cd
'\cd' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
    operable program or batch file.

    C:\Documents and Settings\Jerry M. Miles>cd cd
The system cannot find the path specified.

    C:\Documents and Settings\Jerry M. Miles>program files\mwav\mwavscan.com\sc
'program' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
    operable program or batch file.

    C:\Documents and Settings\Jerry M. Miles> cd\mwav\mwavscan.com\sc
The system cannot find the path specified.

    C:\Documents and Settings\Jerry M. Miles>\cd
'\cd' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
    operable program or batch file.

    C:\Documents and Settings\Jerry M. Miles>cd cd
The system cannot find the path specified.

    (Does it matter whether I use / or\ or>?

When I first unzipped it defaulted to Kaspersky, and I did not correct. Then I deleted it and used Mwav. That is why you see Kaspersky on the first entry.
One thing that is strange is that the program does not show on the Add/Remove program of Control Panel.

I know this is taking a lot of your time, and it is not necessary to do this at any particular time. Except that I desire to learn, I would delete it and forget it. No hurry, and when you decide that "it can't be done" that is OK.

OK you simply do this JerryM:

(assuming you have extracted to C:\program files\MWAV)

Start DOS by Start-->Run--->type 'cmd' without the quotes.

Now dont pay attention to what's there on the black box, just type 'cd C:\Program Files\MWAV' without the quotes.

Now type 'MWAVSCAN/SC' without the quotes

    Then you should be done.

    Regards,
    Firecat
