I need to be able to download you tube videos. So I looked up several options down on wikipedia.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_YouTube_downloaders

I tried the first two. Both them were picked up by Little Snitch to phone to ad companies. Like seriously... these days everything connects to ad serverso_O

You can use adguard for that , but you need to add userscript first

That's because it's a Firefox extension. To be honest, it's the main reason I use Firefox at all these days, as I'm usually in Maxthon on Windows and Android and Chromium on Linux. ;)

I prefer SaveFrom.net helper http://en.savefrom.net/user.php . (enable the extension when you want to download something and disable it when you don't need it)
