Avira may not have spyware/adware detection but it still does detect a fair amount of it. You can ask some fo the people on Wilders that do their own personal testing. (Not me by the way) I have seen some of them say Avira classifies a fair amount of spyware as trojans and picks up some with heuristics.

I've paid enough for 3 pc's, a router and all the softwares that have gone in them. Through trial and a lot of error, I've discovered some things are best paid for. But the a/v-licenses that I've paid for have long since expired, and the $$$ I have to spend on s/w is going towards other layers of security (for now). When an a/v-license is in the cards, Avira will be getting my $$$ :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: . Hopefully xmas will come early this yearo_O

A lot of people have tried to help you, especially myself to the point of losing a few friends their today. Even if your matter isnt resolved it would be nice to hear a thanks for the people here at Wilders who did try. And while we are at it, the good folks at Avira who tried.

It appears Radu is the only one over at Avira who might deserve a thanks. This Nicolae character, at least IMO, was quite rude in his response to trjam's question.

Never mind. No need for me to say anything. I don't use Avira anymore, and I have no plans to do so in the future.

My post about speed was actually a compliemnt... :p
I would come to Avira forum but i'm just tired of registering on every forum just because of one problem. Now it's 33 forums, next time it'll be 200. No thanks.
Also it appears that some rudness is required to get their(anyones?) attention.
Ranting is all good when there are results from it (like here -> issue should be fixed with some next update). And if you lost "friends" because of such thing, they weren't your friends at all...
So thx trjam for taking your time and asking on Avira forums for me.:thumb:

This thread is totally wortless, going all this trouble to complain your freebie is not working Premium 100 percent of the time. The nerve.

Did experience update issues with classic on other people's pc's at times but soon enough it all seemed to solve itself without repair or reinstall. With avira's high detection and topnotch heuristics i do not worry to miss a day's updates. Yesterday seen this as well. Premium always worked premium for me.

To resolve an issue or to let of steam? The first reason is worth a thread the second could be achieved trough kickboxing. ;)

Pardon me for intruding here, but could it be that the free version of this software is put on slow servers in order to get the customers to upgrade to the one on the fast server?
    -sorry, just a hunch.

I think there is a difference between "slow but working" and "not working at all" :D

The less reliable update servers for the classic version - perhaps. However, the particular problem and error that RejZoR got seems to be just a bug that they will fix soon.

Why not stop being a tightwad and buy Kaspersky or NOD32 instead? :D

Especially since Amazon.com is now offering Kaspersky v 6 for free after a $50 rebate with free shipping, and you can update to v 7 through the Kaspersky website.

I've been using Antivir Premium (via a 6 month trial that was offered a few months ago). The only problems I've experienced is that the program will sometimes hang when scanning large email db files, and subsequently create several gig of temp files in my documents and settings directory.

RejZoR, why did you sour on Avast? It's still my favorite AV program, with it's ability to configure several shields. Considering that you wrote that excellent Avast External Control utility (that I would occasionally use when I didn't want to go through the many Avast menus), I'm surprised you stopped using Avast.

I really appreciated Avast's bootscan feature, too. What has made me apprehensive is the AV-Comparatives review of it.

If it wasn't AntiVir, I think I would move on to something else. Since it is AntiVir (I sort of expect update errors) I will just be patient. Although....OA+ is on my shortlist.....hmmmmmo_O
