    OOpss sorry!!

Didn't read your above message as I was in a hurry when I wrote my previous message (I'm in an internet café now...LOL!).

I'll let you know whether or not I solved my issue following your instructions in a couple of hours.

Thanks in advance for your prompt help.

    Hi!!

I forgot to ask you if, as far as you are aware of, there is still any incompatibility issue between PREVX 3.0 (http://info.prevx.com/downloadcsi.aspand) and the last version of AVAST! 5 FREE ANTIVIRUS.

I'm asking you this because I intend to move from Avira to Avast soon but, on the AVAST FORUM, there are a couple of threads reporting some problems between the two programs.

By the way: as far as you know, how many security programs out there (FIREWALL, ANTIVIRUS, ANTISPYWARE, HIPS and so on) are not compatible with the last version of PREVX 3.0?

Thanks in advance for your consideration!!

    Hi!
So far, I have no issues between latest version of PrevX and Avast 5 Free Antivirus, so I think you can install it without any doubt.

Well, thanks for the input. You know how it is, though... what works for me on my systems may not do so well for you on yours, and vice versa.

Or maybe it was like I said, just a coincidence! :)

I haven't heard of any problems with Diskeeper, but the only area which "may" have a problem would be if it tried to modify the MBR, but that would only result in a warning message.

Let me know what you find! :)

up for Joe I think you miss this , if you can control :D
Another strange issue for user of max protection and FB edition is this:
if you go to a link and open it in another tab everithig is good (green prevx icon), but if you chose opening the same link site in another window prevx icon is blue
It happens with every supported browser, Opera, FF, Chrome (IE8 seems not be affected with the issue)

    Hi guys!!

I regret to inform you that I'm still not able to install PREVX 3.0 in my system, even after uninstalling it using the removal tool kindly provided by PrevxHelp a couple of days ago.

So don't know what to do now to solve this annoying issue.

    Any suggestion?

Could you let me know what other security software you have installed? It is possible that it is blocking Prevx from installing - or - it is possible that malware could be preventing the installation of Prevx. If you could try clicking Options on the installer screen of Prevx and then selecting the randomized installation option, this should allow you to bypass most infections.

    Let me know your results!

If you know how, open regedit, hit control and F. Type in the name of a AV product you have used and uninstalled. Hit enter. When it comes to a registry entry with that name delete it. Then keep doing it till you go through the registry. Start over and type another AV product and continue.

When you finish, and yes it may take awhile, reboot and reinstall Prevx. Also delete the Prevx entrys as you go through. Bet it works.

    Hi!!

At present I have any (real-time protection guard) security software installed in my PC as I'm about to install AVAST!5.

As Firewall I'm forced to use XP FIREWALL + WWDC to disable some ports left opened by XP FIREWALL as I can currently rely on a very low quantity of RAM on my old home PC.

A few days ago I had installed PANDA CLOUD ANTIVIRUS just to try it and didn't have any problem with the PREVX SAFEONLINE installation.

Then the error message suddenly appeared leaving empty-handed (however I remember that PREVX found a couple of possible threats in my system classed as "medium risk").

So I don't think that the problem is caused by a specific security sw installed in my PC.

As far as the malware is concerned, I've just performed a full scan of my system using the award-winning A-SQUARED ANTIMALWARE 4.5 in safe mode but at the end of the scanning it didn't find any dangerous threat.

I also tried to perform a full online virus scan using ONLINE BITDEFENDER ONLINE SCANNER but oddly I didn't manage to do so as IE 8 was not able to install the online scanner (IE8 warns me that cannot display the webpage whenever I try to install the Active X installer).

Finally, as for the "Options" on the installer screen of PREVX, unfortunately can do nothing about it simply because I'm not able to open the installer screen of PREVX.

What if a (rogue??) process blocked the PREVX installer?

Can I send you my hijackthis log in order to see if there's anything wrong on my system ?

do it my way so you only delete keys that once were associated with old programs. From the looks, you have installed and uninstalled quite a few malware programs that need to be cleaned out. Just one left over registry key can cause issues. In the registry if you get to some that are labeled legacy files, you cant delete them so just keep going.

    Hi!!

I tried to apply Trjam's procedure through the REGEDIT command but in the end didn't find anything (I typed in "AVIRA" and "PANDA CLOUD ANTIVIRUS")

However, I've just noticed that on the first page of this thread a guy said, quote:

"I experienced a similar problem and had to do a full removal of Prevx before I was able to install the new version. I too was unable to uninstall Prevx using the supplied uninstaller, which was crashing. Fortunately I had done a monitored install of Prevx using TOTAL UNINSTALL and Total Uninstall was able to completely remove Prevx from the machine after which I was able to install the new version".

What do you make of it??

Maybe, at this point, I'd better try to install the trial version of TOTAL UNINSTALL and see what happens: do you agree with me guys??

Alternatively I could post my HIJACKTHIS LOG but need your go-ahead first.

    Waiting for your feedback.

Sure it would be helpful to Prevx to know what the problem is. I just suggest he/she might want to use safe mode to uninstall and then install. Sometimes its best to go round an obstacle ;)

Check if the hidden folder where Prevx stores its data files still exists and if so delete it. If this folder exists and contains corrupt data, it may prevent you from reinstalling Prevx.

The location of the folder on Windows XP (not sure about Vista) is: "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\PrevxCSI"

    Tech support responded...

"The MBR is completely ignored by Diskeeper as it is part of the system file listing which is included in Diskeeper Internal Exclusion list.
Diskeeper does not perform any operations on files related to the MBR."

So I'm still searching for answers. V3.0.5.74 isn't running as well on one of my machines as v3.0.1.65 ran. Diskeeper is the only software I added, and upon its removal, Prevx does better, although still not starting up with 100% regularity and sometimes both prevx.exe processes appear in Task Manager but no icon in the systray.

Joe a strange behavior of prevx for you
Italian user with a wireless printer with prevx on receive an "Invalid Handle" message from windows
I tell him to set off safeonline but he have almost the same issue, this way no Invalid Handle message but printer stil continue not printing
and the program (notepad, word, thunderbird ...) crash

So he try another way with a clean fresh Vista32bit O.S. and some different situation
You can see pictures here for understand better (I hope :D )
    http://www.hwupgrade.it/forum/showpost.php?p=30932969&postcount=2207

PICTURE 1: the microsoft spooler service is set automatic (I ask him to control it)

Picture 2: without prevx on, he can print, everything ok

Picture 3: with an old prevx version (prevx 3.0.1.65 - No SafeOnline in this version) he can easely print, everything ok

    Picture 4: uninstalled the older and installed a new prevx 3.0.5.74 and Safeonline active he receive the Invalid Handle warning;
setting SafeOnline off (On/Off switch) he does not receive the warning but the application (notepad, word, TB...) goes to crash

If he overwrite the new prevx 3.0.5.74 over the older 3.0.1.65 he can print and everithig is ok
even with SafeOnline set to maximum protection (he try facebook version in this case) he can print if he overwrite

woowww I hope you understand my "spaghetti" explanation and the strange issue too

He see another strange issue making thistest, with Prevx 3.0.1.65 on trying upgrade to the new one Prevx said there are no upgrade
If he launch the new installer overwriting the 3.0.1.65 it seems as nothing happens, it seems not been an installation he said, but opening prevx he can read Prevx 3.0.5.74 and with the new GUI with SafeOnline option and new release number but it seem not a complete uninstall of the older, this cuold be why I can print in this situation?
    well ....
For you investigate Joe A.K.A. "Sherlock Holmes":D
