To answer your PM question, when typing opera:/help/ and pressing 'Enter', I get the first screenshot...

    C'

I'm not sure if this is exploitable in this manner.

Was hoping 7.22 would give a file not found error?

It is not clear from the bug traq at least from the perspective of lay person how this could be exploited.

Maybe someone who knows this stuff can explain...

Seems like the same trick as used by Browser Spy (but I could be wrong):

C Drive Information which is a trick and only viewable by the pc user

2 pieces to the exploit which is serious (IMO):

Crockett posted the link which allows traversal and makes lack of path knowledge unimportant and thus increases the vulnerability of the 1st exploit which is dropping files based on mime type exploit (skinning):

a big thanks to Crockett (link #2) & Opera forum participants (Tolque53 & non-troppo) for link #1 which allowed assessment of the 2 vulns together.

Kudos to the Opera team for their quick (blazing would be a better word) response on dealing with this issue...

    Hello ;)

Case closed as far as Google's display on some machines was concerned...

As I anticipated, there was NO Opera 7.22 bug whatsoever in this affair.
