Off topic, but curious question

Today after saying to my mother when she came to visit that i always keep pepsi max in the fridge as i much prefer this to diet pepsi. She said something that really peaked my curiosity. She said that Pepsi max is exactly the same drink as diet pepsi but it was made as the pepsi company thought men would feel insecure about drinking a drink called diet so they took the same drink and called it max solely to trick stupid males into thinking they're drinking something cool and masculine.

Does anyone know if this is actually true. As i swear Pepsi max seems to taste nicer than Diet pepsi. But if my mother is correct and they are exactly the same drink it is one excellent psychology trick achieved by Pepsi as changing the name seems to cause men to think the drink is nicer tasting.

Im curious if anyone knows the answer to this

I'm hooked on the stuff. Drink about 6, 2 Litre bottles a week.

No sugar but all that aspartame will get me one of these days.
