I attempted to run an off-line defrag with Perfectdisk 8.0 (build 64) but upon reboot, I got the following ERROR message:

    Code:
Failed to wait for verify volume using Defrag32 (1393, 839)

    Starting boot-time defragmentation pass;

    Starting optimization for C:\

    Unable to volume (1393, 2)

Unable to verify drive drive C:\ due to inconsistencies (1393, 2)

    "Please run CHKDSK /r /f c:/"

    Your computer must be restarted

Then it would reboot and the following message would appear before proceeding to the XP log-in screen:

    Code:
    Starting optimization for C:/

    Volume is NOT dirty

Failed to open volume using Defrag 32 (32, 538)

    \DosDevices\volume{ca561a4d-9138-11da-91a6-B06d6172696f}

Could not gain exclusive access to drive C:/ (32)

There is a possible driver conflict. (C:/)

This just started happening all of a sudden. Does anyone know what is causing this and how to fix it?

    Thanks.

1 I hope this will help ,if not call Raxco for support, please
Open PD and make sure you have no updates if there are updates after you do them -reboot.
2 Delete cookies, off, online files-or use CCLEANER to do so
    3 DO A Disk Cleanup
4 Run the check disk be patient it could take a while
5 If you are curios after #4 is completed open your Event viewer and I believe in the Applications look for Winlogon
open it and this will show the repairs-if you want you can delete all those applications-Reboot
6 Open PerfictDisk and do the Offline and Entire drive.
    Best of luck.

Please go to Start--->Run and type in cmd in the box that appears.

In the command prompt window, type the following command:
    chkdsk /r /f
If it asks you whether you want to check the drive at next reboot, press Y.
Reboot your system. Your computer will reboot and CHKDSK will check your drive for errors.

After it has finished checking your drive for errors, your computer will reboot. Go to Perfectdisk and do the offline defragment again. If it still fails, refer to this article: http://www.raxco.com/support/windows/kb_details.cfm?kbid=494

I checked that link already and I have NONE of the 3rd party softwares listed on my system.

I recently upgraded to Kaspersky Internet Security 7.0.0.119

I wonder if there are any reports of it conflicting with PD off-line defrags?

AV software is not even running when you do an offline defrag.

Why not call Raxco, they have a toll free number and appear to be very helpful?

    No but I'm about to.

Is it better to run CHKDSK /r through the command window.....or through the RECOVERY CONSOLE CD?

IF chkdsk does not correct the issue, then I will have to contact Raxco support.

I´m now testing O&O defrag, but recall that I earlier had similar problems with PD offline´s...If you tried everything,i.e chkdsk, incompatibility issues etc...run the installer which is placed in app directory x86 alt. x64...when starting click repair...That solved the issue for me several times...After a while I had to repeat the procedure..

There is a thread on the Kaspersky forum called KAV causing chkdsk errors, I have never actually read through it though. I hope it offers something.
