And without any of the privacy protections that were initially proposed.

My concern is that the legislation allows companies to share any information with the government with full legal immunity. Obviously the privacy implications were poorly considered.

Personally it doesnt change my behaviour, will continue not using my real name or anything traceable back to me online. Really disappointing that I have to go this far for privacy.

@driekus - "Obviously the privacy implications were poorly considered"

Of course they were considered, but cast aside because they weren't important to those really making the decision. It's extremely disappointing, but it is what it is - and continues the "robust legal framework" for the TLAs to continue doing what they were doing, with the added benefit of letting corporates off the hook for negligence. The huge difference between what is and what "ought" to be. The take-home, as it has been for a while - is look after yourself, which is what this forum is about.

Gawd that's sickening. After all the hard work peeps put up to block it in the first time around, which was a huge effort and it sneaks through in the dark of night. I wonder how much the big players paid for this one.

  6. The Dutch are very forward thinking honest people. They are at least 25 years ahead of every other major western country.

Why PS4 is not so secure for the ISIS members’ communication?
    http://securityaffairs.co/wordpress/43453/hacking/isis-communication-ps4.html

Even if communication is broken, IMO it would still be hard to find in-game messages (messages created by in-game items and not written on chat).

If I believed that I'd be going yay U.S.A. Sadly, I can't help but doubt what I read...if only I could trust anything they say. /cry! ...Good pre-written speech though, props to whoever actually wrote it. They deserve a raise. Like a HUGE one! Even I 'wanted' to believe it for a minute. My grandfather (maybe even my father) would likely buy it hook line and sinker if they read it... =( I suppose I'll know that soon enough.

"We steal stuff to keep you free and keep you safe," Hayden said. "We do not steal stuff to make you rich. I can think of only four other countries who can say that. They all speak English."

How many impossible things are we supposed to believe before breakfast?

When he says "we", it may or may not be true that the NSA themselves (generally) don't steal stuff to "make you rich". But it strains credibility that the data doesn't mysteriously find its way into the IRS, the Fed and onwards to their Wall Street buddies. That way "you" - as in the proles - certainly do not get rich, the worthy deserving bankers need their bonuses. A very major component of spying is economic espionage, and they seem to have the attitude that the databases are to be sold/rented to as many people as possible to justify their humongous cost and lack of legitimacy.

It's also the case that the surveillance facilities allow for freelance fraud, as in the case of an FBI investigator in Silk Road 2, who siphoned off $800k bitcoins - although he obviously did get caught, there will be many others who do not (or who indulge in a little spread betting based on insider information).

Being Dutch myself I can say that that is a little overrated. For example the Dutch government is currently trying to pass a new law which allows for massive spying for our intelligence agencies and even hacking abilities for the police. They even tried to put in something to force people to give up their encryption passwords/keys, though that seems of the table for now.
