HI, i just updated spy sweeper today and noticed it runs out in 15days.
im not sure if i want just free on demand scanners or if i want to buy something.
what options for light real time?
    or on demand?
I have thought of trend micro for light real time if i wanted to buy something.
    scans are fast.
if only trend micro made a free just on demand version

The free realtime protection most talked about lately is Spyware Terminator. I haven't actually used it, but will be installing on my moms machine for the realtime protection. I have heard a lot fo good stuff about this program.

I use Spyware Doctor and really like it, but some people really don't care for it because of the false positives and lack of a fully functional trial.

If I were you, I would probably ditch SpySweeper. The program seems to keep getting bigger and bigger. It didn't appear like either of the last 2 revisions (5.0 and 5.2) were adequately QC-ed. Rushed to market in my opinion and not ready.

I do think it still provides great pretection. But just not worth the price in system resources.

Neither would I. In fact, I use the antispyware option in NOD32 and SuperAntispyware for on-demand only. I installed and ran it yesterday - having had no real-time antispyware app on my machine for five months - and it found squat! I feel, for the most part, that antispyware programs are a waste of money and system resources.

my scans always come clean unless they have false possitives which spy sweeper has had two recently.
im gonna try superantispyware free version again later.
last time it crashed at the end of the scan.

I reckon you'd be just fine running KAV realtime by itself. Use something like superantispyware or a squared on demand.
However if your dad is paying then use whatever payware you like :)

i agree with farmerlee. an AV (especially KAV) should be sufficient for realtime.

If I wanted free real time AS protection I would go for Spware Terminator. I personally use SAS, and am happy with it.

Whatever happened to ZeroSpyware? It had a good report here.

I am thinking it offers free realtime protection, but I may be incorrect.

Do you have either AVG AS or a-squared? I would use one of these in the free version, although I have a lifetime license for AVG.

    Best,
    Jerry

Yeah i agree, TM antispyware is great program imo, it runs very light compared to spysweeper and offers excellent protection.

Save some money . With your setup , you don't need resident antispyware protection . Just use either on-line scanner (e.g. Panda's free Active Scan) once a month or something like Spybot S&D/Ewido Micro

I would agree with a previous post. With KIS PDM I would say that a real time AS is superflous. I would do what I do which is to use either SUPERAntiSpyware or Spyware Terminator Free editions as a standalone, on-demand AS scanner, ie, they back up KIS.

    Just my thoughts:D

i just need an on demand scanner it would be nice if i didnt have to install anything since my antispyware programs never find anything since my pc is clean but its nice to check.
thats why i like dr web cure it and ewido micro.

I have installed both SUPERAntiSpyware or Spyware Terminator Free editions. They have caused no issues and both provide excellent detection capabilities. I do not think that you would have any issues installing them.:D

well superantispyware the first version of the version with faster scanning crashed at the end of the scan once.
its probably fixed now since i got it on the first day it came out.

KAV have two weapons against spyware. First, check its detection rate(on-demand scanning) of PUPS(spyware, adware, etc) in AV-Comparatives. Second, the behaviour blocker tracks the critical system places where spyware attacks(LSP, registry, browser settings, hosts, autostart, etc). I would only add a backup scanner:
-First class: SuperAntiSpyware/Ewido micro or AVG AS/A Squared
-Second class: Spy Bot S&D, Ad-aware SE, Windows Defender

thanks i dont think i ever read the pup's report i will read it now.
ive already got a squared free i like the fact that it updates versions via the updater. and i use ewido micro as well.
i notice that dr web is quite low but thats not a problem for its users because they will protect against the dangerous stuff.

Weird. I have run scans with SUPERAntiSpyware periodically since the latest version came out and I have had not problems at all with it. You should try Spyware Terminator. Again, I have run this and I have had not issues with it at all.

For free scanners I have had no trouble with SAS and A-Squared.
    I recommend those two.

if my dad whats to buy something is trend micro antispy as good in detection or very close in detection to spysweeper?
also can you tell it not to start with windows and just run it as on demand?
