You can refuse the advantage update. and you should be able to continue to update.

Well after the outcry over WGA(N)'s activities, most people would already be on their way to kicking WGA(N) outta their computers. But anyway nobody needs WGA(V) or WGA(N) anymore it seems.

    Hello,
You need validation to perform Windows updates.

Hi mrk. I know the validation component is needed. But somehow I wish they would stop pushing all this extra junk down people's throats. It's like they expect us computer users to swallow everything they give us.
And also, the WU and MU site now takes longer to display the updates for your computer after you click on Express or Custom possibly because it needs to validate the computer everytime the user checks for updates. It's just wasting our time.

Or you can try Autopatcher to avoid any "Forced" installs.

Huh? You are making it seem so confusing. What do you mean by not about the wga. Windows Genuine Advantage Validation and Windows Genuine Advantage Notification is the program that loads in Winlogon.exe

Notify Windows Genuine Advantage? Is there a program with such a name?
    WGA is Windows Genuine Advantage.

    CORRECT NAMES:
    Windows Genuine Advantage Validation
    Windows Genuine Advantage Notification

and u can use ryanvm's post-sp2 update pack to update ur winxp w/ sp2 cd, so every fresh install includes the latest hotfixes. wga(n) and wga(v) not included afaik.

My recommendation is to disable the Automatic Updates feature in Windows XP and do it manually.
You do not need the Notification component of WGA. You only need WGA(V) to do updates.
