I have not used Norton in 3 years. I have a friend who does use it. He uses his computer for business.

He said that sometimes he is working and Norton asked if he wants to update or wait. Sometimes it is an inconvenient timr, but if he waits it ties his computer up. I am pretty sure he was talking about updates and not scans.

Is not there a way to turn off auto updates and do it manually? I never experienced that problem, but I did not use my machine for business so to let it update was not a problem.

    ADDED.
He said he really likes the spam filter of Norton, and that it works well.

    Thanks,
    Jerry

Jerry, all he has to do is go into settings and uncheck the box for automatic updates.

Considering Norton is one of the worst as far as update frequency is concerned, tell your friend it would be wise to take them when they appear.

Starting with the 2006 products, Norton updates through Liveupdate once a day. This is a lot better than previous versions. :D

Unless you disable the AutoUpdate Scheduler Norton now checks every 4 hrs, filling your Event Viewer with useless - started, stopped, next est time...

Yes, but it doesn't always work.
NAV 2006 periodically installs updates anyway and/or enables automatic Live Update.
