Without wishing to join the squabble I think this is the key point. One of the problems with public beta testing is the tendency to draw conclusions instead of remembering the software is unfinished. The point of using it is to help make it better, not to review it. Of course if the problems still exist in the released version then by all means be critical.

I thought this thread was about the beta of the 2011 version. Not liking or disliking Symantec/Norton or their pricing scheme.

I agree, keep that out of the discussion unless it's connected to something else in a creative way.

My problem wrt Eraser is the fanboy nonsense you and another guy keep repeating all the time. Completely illogical conclusions, nonsensical excuses etc. And you do this yet again and ask what's the problem?

As for Symantec itself, I have described my experience with their "enterprise-class" SEP product elsewhere, that alone is enough of a reason to not ever touch their products again.

Testing out the Beta on my 2nd PC today. Seems VERY light thus far, but by these numbers... is it even there and running? O__O

    Processes: 2
    Memory Per Process 5MB & 6MB

    I/O read bytes:
    Process 1 31,350,025
    Process 2 9,206,354

    I/O write bytes:
    Process 1 466,785
    Process 2 3,830

    CPU Time:
    Process 1 0:00:13
    Process 2 0:00:04

Computer has been on about 6 hours, mostly web browsing (Yahoo news, YouTube, Wilders, TechSupportAlert, Facebook) although I did watch The Bourne Identity on WMP.

I really, really DO NOT consider myself to be a "fan-boy" of any application of any sort. I know I am new here, but doktornotor I think we should stick to the original topic otherwise this may be closed.

    Exactly.

What I take from this thread from the positives and the critics:
    Norton 2011 looks promising.
Norton Power Eraser, may be a fail from the following dispassionate standpoint -
NAV2011 might be better at detection thus making their other porduct - Power Eraser - less usefull to NAV customers as time passes.

But back to Victek's wisdom - all this is fresh and beta, only time will tell how things look down the road when the dust settles.

    I'll reserve judgement until then.

All I see is "it has many false positives on some systems, it must be crap" without looking at anything else.

dont forget norton tends to dip into the paging file. one of the ways it reduced ram usage. but i agree the new beta is very nice although a bit to sensitive.

    Hi all!
After around 48 hours with my system on, and working with some graphic tools, ftp, conversion format tools, this are my resources values:

    ccSvcHst.exe - Admin - 10.240 KB
    ccSvcHst.exe - SYSTEM - 10.384 KB

Very light and stable. My system´s svchost.exe legit processes looks in normal values too. Working in everyday tasks are smoothly and faster than using Avira 9 Personal, Avira 10 Premium or Avast! 5.

Could you do me a favor and upload the full installer of NIS2o11? Would be great since you've premium and all and the downloader always has issues. Thanks! :)

Great. Ironic stuff coming up... after reboot, after uninstalling DW since it's troubling as *** (wouldn't trust applications I put to trust everywhere), I could download the installer again. "*** Windows 98!" :D

    Well, first crash here.
If some performance options are disabled in miscellaneous setting and you click in performance option in main window, program exits.
    ccSvcHst -> System stays on.
    ccSvcHst -> Admin get closed.
Norton can´t start clicking program or desktop icon.
    Need to reboot.

Beta feedback form point to 360 product... =|

Depends on CPU. With a low-end this would be heaven for it. :p

    3GUser,

I am really curious about this test -

Another test : I first disable NIS2011 protection , start the malware , wait about 10 minutes , then reenabled protection and perform Insight Network scan

How did wrar393 URL get entangled with the Trojan ? There is a green reputation symbol next to the file wrar393.exe also which indicates that it is a good rep file.

The green rep always doesn't mean that file is coming from good source

    Hello cetnam !

The particular threat I tested with was first in an archive and that is why Norton placed this sourse . It could be a bug but it has nothing to do with WinRAR. Just the files was in a rar.
